2015-2016 SEASON SUMMARY

ROUGHAM TABLE TENNIS CLUB – 2015/2016 SEASON

Membership
Thirty two members – juniors and adults – joined our Club during the season, two less than the previous season. The Club had five teams competing in the Bury St Edmunds League – three teams in the Suffolk & Cambs Junior Table Tennis League – one team in the National Junior League (under 18s) and one team in the National Cadet League (under 15s).

Bury St Edmunds League
In the Bury St Edmunds League programme Rougham Lions finished in sixth place out of eight teams, Rougham Rangers finished in seventh place out of nine teams.

Rougham Panthers, Rockets and RATTS (Rougham Adult Table Tennis Sessions) finished in first, second and third places in a division of five teams, and in the same positions for the Handicap League event in the second half of the season.

Junior Achievements
In the Suffolk & Cambs Junior League Rougham Lions First Division three year title winning run came to an end finishing third in a division of five teams. Rougham Panthers finished fifth in this division. In the Second Division Rougham Rovers finished third in the five team division.

Rougham teams in the National Leagues experienced tough competition – in the Junior Division Rougham finished third out of six teams – in the Cadets’ Second Division Rougham were runners up out of five teams.

Individually Rougham junior players had success in various Tournaments - at the Bury League Tournament Riya Kumar won the Third Division Singles and the Handicap Singles.

Riya also won the Girls Singles at the Suffolk & Cambs Junior League Tournament.  At the same tournament Callum Barrett won the under 13 Singles and Leo Saiu-Bell the Division 2 Singles and Player of the Season Award.

In the Suffolk County Championships Holly McGerty won the Girls Junior Singles and sister Isobel the Girls under 11 Singles.  Riya retained her Girls under 15 Singles title. Holly and Isobel also had success in the Suffolk Schools Tournament winning the under 16 and under 11 Girls Singles titles.  Holly was also awarded the Nigel Jepson Trophy for 2016 as the most improved junior player in the Bury St Edmunds League – the first girl to receive this award.  Isobel ended the season at number 4 in the England under 11 Rankings.

Four Club junior members played for Suffolk in the Inter County Championships – Holly McGerty and Adam Reeve for the Junior team and Anna Ridsdill Smith and Riya Kumar for the Cadet team.  This brings to ten the number of Rougham junior members who have played for the County in recent years.

The 2016/2017 Club season commences on Wednesday 7th September 2016.

The Committee for the coming season is:
Chairman – Maurice Fearn: Secretary – Ray Stapleton: Treasurer – Gary Childs: Child Protection – Nikki Stibbs: Web Manager – Paul McGerty. There are vacancies for two Committee members.
