Colchesters team for the Essex Junior Interleague was represented by 3 Rowhedge players, Jermaine Fearon, Josh Sidki and Lauren James as well as Gt Horksleys talented Matt Rogers at the event held at BATTS in Harlow.

Round 1 comprised us v Chelmsford and Burnham (first time for many seasons) v Southend. Lauren lost to Wiktor Delimat 3-0 but Matt beat Emily Wood 3-1 for a share of the opening matches. Josh and Jermaine both had 3-0 wins over Chris Denyer and Daniel Berry respectively and 3-1 wins over the same two players in the final two matches for their team’s 8-2 win. In between Emily came back from 2-0 down to beat Lauren 3-2 whilst Wiktor did the reverse against Matt and in the doubles between the four players Wiktor and Emily let a 2-0 lead slip to lose in five. With Southend beating Burnham by the same 8-2 score, we were joint top of the table but second on 'goal' difference.

Round 2 saw us take on Burnham and Southend play Chelmsford. We had another 8-2 win after Lauren had lost the opening match to Cameron and Josh finally getting a five game win over George Ashley, the closest match of this match. The two doubles were shared, both won by a 3-0 margin, which left us 4-2 up and we went on to win the last four singles, two by 3-0 margins and Lauren and Josh needing a fourth game to overcome Daniel and George Stacey-Stevens respectively.

For the last round of matches we had to play Southend and Chelmsford were playing Burnham. At this stage the table showed we were on 16 points, Southend 13 points, Chelmsford 7 points and Burnham 4 points. Therefore we could afford a 6-4 defeat and still take the title while Southend needed a 7-3 win for the title leaving Chelmsford and Burnham apparently to play for the wooden spoon although if Chelmsford could achieve a good win and Southend lost heavily they might just sneak the runners up position.

In the opening matches Adam beat Lauren 3-1 and Matt was having all sorts of problems playing Emily who was playing really well. Matt eventually steadied himself to come through 10-12, 8-11, 11-6, 11-8, 11-8. Josh lost to Sam 3-0 and Jermaine beat James 3-0 for a 2-2 scoreline after the singles and any final match score still possible.

We then won both of our doubles, Matt and Lauren coming back from 2-1 down and Jermaine and Josh winning three straight. With Matt winning his last singles against Adam, it was Lauren's win over Emily that guaranteed three wins for us and the title, the icing on the cake was added by the dynamic duo at 1 and 2 for us Jermaine and Josh

Taking all matches into account It was our Captain Jermaine Fearon and Matt Rogers who were the only unbeaten players on the day.

Congratulations also to Clacton Cadet Interleague team who won on the day with a team made up of Rowhedge Monday Coaching starts, Gracie Edwards, Sam Hume and Morgan Harvey.

Above are the winners with their medallion trophies and these were presented on the day by BATTS Neil Brierley.
