Academy v Sonics

Another exciting game between two groups of very talented youngsters. Academy fielded the brother and sister, Jamie and Katie Peacock and Luke Robinson against regulars for Sonics Jack Pugh, Charlie Coates who had Oliver King for his second game with them.

Playing on two tables the doubles was left until the end. Both Jack Pugh and Oliver King won all their games and one game of note was the attacking game between Oliver King and Jamie Peacock. Each of the Academy team won a game each and Jamie and Katy combined to win the doubles leaving the result 6-4 to Sonics to put Sonics at the top of the league. Nomads v East Boldon

Nomads were entertaining the Championship favourites in East Boldon who had their regulars of talented Peter Smallcombe, attacking Jordan Dove and the reliable Val Lough. Nomads fielded brothers Chris and Billy Jennings along with the more experienced Barry Dingwall. Peter Smallcombe proved his credentials as one of the best players in the league taking all three of his games and with Jordan Dove also the doubles giving him player pf the match. He was backed up with 2 from Val Lough. Barry for Nomads used his defensive ability to take two games and Billy Jennings played a very tactical game to give him a win. Final score 7-3 to East Boldon.

Comets v Corinthians

Comets tried to do club colleagues a favour by taking points from Corinthians who are challenging for the top spot with Matfen B and Bombers. However, Colin Pritchard, Nikki and Debbie Irwin came out pointless against a very strong side consisting of Alan Hedley, Paul Jamieson and Kit Robinson.

Jaguars v Desperadoes

Desperadoes are really improving and their results are getting better and better and the long trip to Cramlington against an experienced team of Mick Sursham, Aubrey Drapkin and Peter Anderson was a real test of how far they have come. Max Duffin took player of the match winning all three and taking the doubles with Oliver Turnbull, Oliver Turnbull took one and Haydn put up some strong displays but couldn’t finish any game off. Result 5-5.

Aces v North Fire

Table topping Aces were playing closest rivals North Fire looking for a win to boost their promotion hopes.

Aces had Waldemar Dzwonkowski, Ian Mcallister and Duncan Fraser against Frank Lasek, Bob Appleby and Bob Attwell. Waldemar had his usual stunning performance with three singles wins and taking the doubles with Ian, Duncan struggled against the pimples of North Fire, but Ian McAllister ran in two victories to give the Aces a 6-4 win to  maintain their league leading position.

Chargers v Magpies

Chargers turned out an experienced team of Peter Whitfield, Terry Charlton and John Reid against the youngsters of Jamie Hall, Joe Hastings(in only his second game) and McKenzie Clark. The youngsters played attacking attractive table tennis but could not compete with the consistency of the older players and only Jamie Hall managed a win in a nail-biting game against Terry Charlton.
