Eagles v Redby B

It didn’t look like a game between a former Division 2 team and a very young Division 3 team. The Eagles were up for the game and played out of their skins and if ever a score did not give a true picture this was it.

Redby with the ever reliable Howard Foster and Ron Douglas were joined by newcomer Firdauss Mazeri who is going to end up being one of the best players in the league. Eagles had regulars Jack Pugh, Haydn Williamson and Luke Dumighan who are really gelling into a team that helps and supports each other. All individual games were down to 2 or 3 points with the important points going to Redby. The doubles game in particular went one way and the other before finally going to Redby 14-12 in the final end. The score may have been 10-0 but Eagles can be pleased with their own individual performances and the way they conducted themselves throughout the evening, they are a credit to their parents and the club.

East Boldon V Bombers

Bombers are determined to make a charge for promotion and with the young guns of Dan Hutchinson and Max Duffin joining evergreen Nigel Coe they put on a good show at East Boldon who fielded Neil Wilkinson, Tom Fowle and Jeff Hope. Neil Wilkinson put up most resistance by taking two singles but with Max putting in a player of the match  and taking all his matches and with Dan taking the doubles, all the rest of the games went Bombers way as they came away 8-2 victors.

Aces v Cram Cobras, Northumbria League

This looked like a routine win for Aces with Duncan Fraser Jon Mawson and Max Duffin proving too strong for a Cramlington team of Mike Dunn, Joe Swinburn and Robert Swinburne, but this was far from it with Cobras fighting for every point and with two games going to 5 ends and four going to 4, it was no easy game, even though Aces won 10-0

Desperadoes v Comets

Comets are making a big push for promotion but turned up with only two players against a Desperadoes side who had debutant Kevin Richardson joining regulars John Reid and Sam Duffin. Colin Pritchard and Nikkie Irwin weren’t going to take any prisoners though, to try and take as many points as possible, and they stormed through the games, and won the doubles as well, to take their maximum 7 points. The power of Colin and Nikki was too much for the Desperadoes, and even though Sam attacked at every opportunity, John put up stiff resistance and Kevin in his first match played some excellent backhand winners, they couldn’t take any more than the forfeited 3 points.
