Shrewsbury`s over 40 side made a superb start to their Midland league division2
campaign with an excellent win against league leaders Nuneaton on sunday, the
town side consisted of the current hardbat champion,veterans champion and open
singles winners at last seasons tournament and quite unusually the visitors
fielded a team of all lefthanders 

Matt Croft started the match with a tense 5 game victory against Alan Jenkins
winning 11-6,7-11,11-9,9-11,11-9,Mike Dudley increased the lead with a
comfortable three game win against the visitors captain Bob Whittacker but
Nuneaton hit back as Aidy yates managed a five game win against Terry Ridgway
,Dudley hit subline attacking form to beatJenkins 9-11,11-7,11-5,11-6 and then
teamed up with Matt Croft to win the doubles recovering from a 0-2 defecit to
win the three remaining games 11-4,11-7,11-9.

Shrewsbury  captain Terry Ridgway  wrapped up the win by beating
the difficult combination style of Whittacker 11-4,11-9,11-4

with Dudley and Croft registering maximums the Shrewsbury side jumped to
the top spot and travel to title favourites Nottingham next month..
