The Robert Excell Photography-sponsored South Devon & Torbay Table Tennis League

Brixham Sharks head the 1st Division table following a whitewash over their Gulls side and then a convincing 8-2 win over previous leaders and unbeaten in their last 35 matches, Batmen.  Stam Kioufis remains unbeaten and pretty much unbeatable.  He dominated against previously unbeaten Iain Dummett & Dennis Gibbs and he was supported well by Adam Shipway who also gained a maximum.  Batmen slipped to third as the Torbay Table Tennis Academy 1^st team climbed to second spot following a fairly comfortable encounter against bottom side Dawlish Aces, winning 9-1, Ed Crawford of the Aces preventing the whitewash. There were much closer games for Halwell, who drew with Brixham Gulls, Dave Wadling winning his three games and with Mick Atkinson in the final doubles just beating the Millmans, Josh and Aaron to secure a draw, and for Newton Bishops who overcame Brixham Trawlers 6-4.

Taverners remain top of the 2^nd Division but have played an extra game.  An 8-2 win over Brixham Pirates their latest encounter will be remembered for 2 great wins for the youngsters from Brixham, Sam Jones beating previously undeafeted Colin Harrop and Tom Haggerty’s fine win over Alan Tyrrell. Second place Torbay Academy II didn’t have it all their own way against Marldon who battled all the way, many sets going to 5 games, but the Academy side ended up winning 7-3, led by another Simon Furgol maximum. Bishops Academy marched on with a 10-0 win over bottom side Dawlish Diamonds to close the gap to just one point behind Torbay Academy.  Tykes found Brixham Swallows in top form, although the 9-1 score line flattered the Swallows as there were many very close encounters throughout the evening, Oliver Slocombe & Alan Carthy picked up maximums for the Swallows.

Torbay Academy III lead the 3^rd Division which has several strong teams battling it out this season.  The Academy team brushed aside Dawlish Dynamos 9-1 but need to watch out for Marldon Badgers who had two whitewashes over Dawlish Drifters and Brixham Panthers, and have a game in hand over the leaders, as do the Hasbeens who also whitewashed Brixham Dolphins. Jordan Hastie for the Academy remains unbeaten as do Simon & Mike Hern from Marldon and Richard Fitzgerald at Hasbeens.
