Robert Excell Photography-Sponsored South Devon & Torbay Table Tennis League

With the week off for most teams, as the second round of the new super singles took preference, Newton Abbot Batmen climbed back to the top of the first division for what will be a brief stay having played two more games than their two rivals.  Their comprehensive defeat of Halwell included a return to form for Mike Dummett who alongside son Iain and Dennis Gibbs whitewashed the Halwell side.  Another player in fine form is Battlers Keith Hawkins who took all three singles in a drawn match with Newton Bishops. Battlers 5-3 up couldn’t finish the match off though, as the Bishops’ Connor Adams took the final singles, in 5 sets, off Pete Nicholson and then paired up with Jim McIvor in the doubles for the Bishops to claim the draw in another thrilling 5 setter. Battlers 5 points were enough to lift them off the bottom of the first division above both Dawlish Aces & Brixham Trawlers, the 3rd team to sit on the bottom of the league in the new year.

Hasbeens in Division 3 kept in touch with the top sides with a comfortable 8-2 win over Dawlish Drifters, Richard Fitzgerald & Dave Alexander gaining maximums for the Hasbeens, Ivor Copley got the 2 for the Drifters with a singles win and then paired with Lee Passmore to win the last doubles.

In the latest Dyment Doubles matches there were wins for Dawlish Drifters 5-3 in a tight match with Marldon, Dawlish Aces who defeated their stable mates  Dynamos 5-0 and similarly Brixham Trawlers who overcame another Brixham side, Panthers also 5-0
