Robert Excell Photography-Sponsored South Devon & Torbay Table Tennis League

Brixham Sharks clinched the First Division title with a narrow 6-4 win over Dawlish Aces, the 6 points enough to take them 2 points clear of 2nd placed Torbay Table Tennis Academy I.  The Sharks team are Adam Shipway, Jazmin Johns, Chris Dunn and the outstanding Stamatis Kioufis who finished top of the averages with 100% for the third year running.  The Dawlish Aces team of Yannick & Giles Tushingham with Ed Crawford made the Sharks fight all the way, but the all-round power of the Sharks ultimately proved too much for the Aces side.  Congratulations Brixham Sharks on a fine campaign, timed to perfection.

Bishops Academicals did enough against Torre 21 Up to capture back the 3rd place spot they were aiming for in the Second Division. For a while it looked like the Bishops side would be challenging the top two, but an injury to Doug Morgan and a loss of form left them well off the pace in the end.  The second Division title is being decided this week with a play-off between Taverners & Torbay Academy II as they finished level on points at the top of the table.

The Challenge Team Handicap Cup Final was fought between Torbay Academy I & Newton Bishops. Having been pipped at the post by the Sharks in the League, the Academy side of Kris Piwowar, Patrik Cincala & Daniel Brewer were in no mood to relinquish the Challenge Cup which they had won last year. They were rarely troubled by the Bishops side of Jim McIvor, Connor Adams & Gerald Norton, as they ran out 5-0 victors.  The mixture of styles and bats the Bishops team played with were no match for the aggressive attacking style of all 3 Academy players.  Well done to Torbay Table Tennis Academy I and they play it all again next week in the Dyment Doubles final against the same opposition.  Best of luck Bishops!
