SOUTH DEVON & TORBAY TABLE TENNIS LEAGUE

Denbury Imports 8-2 victory over Torbay Academy 1 puts them 13 points clear at the top of the First Division. Rory Harries took another maximum for the Imports and Patrik Cincala picked up the 2 points for the Academy. Second-placed NA Batmen whitewashed the Battlers, but cannot shake off Brixham Sharks’ challenge for the runners-up position, just 2 points behind, as they comfortably saw off Halwell 9-1. There is then a 20 point gap to 4^th place. Dave Wadling was unbeaten for Halwell in a 5-5 draw with fellow strugglers Brixham Gulls, which eases both clubs’ relegation fears and opens up a 15-point gap over basement side Battlers. 

NA Buzzards have a 5-point lead and a game in hand at the top of the Second Division following their 9-1 win over stablemates the Eagles, with maximums from Mike Dummett & Charlie Usher for the Buzzards. Brixham Imports, in second place, keep up their challenge thanks to new signing, Martin Sharp, who was unbeaten in their 7-3 victory over basement side Denbury Tykes.  Third-placed Brixham Pirates went one better than clubmates Imports, by beating Denbury Tykes 8-2, with Clive Banham collecting another maximum. Martin Dilkes battled well for the Tykes, picking up 2 wins in both matches.  Dan Webster-Hall was unbeaten as Torbay Academy 3 fought out another draw, this time against Marldon.  Taverners had a narrow 6-4 victory over NA Eagles.

Marldon Tykes, with a 25 point lead at the top of the Third Division, won their 13^th match of the season, defeating Torre Bats, 8-2. Steve Metcalfe was again unbeaten for the Tykes. Brixham Diamonds’ whitewash over bottom side Dawlish Drifters keeps them as favourites for the runners-up spot. Third-placed Torbay Academy slipped up, losing 6-4 to a fine all-round team performance by NA Hawks, as Ben Hoare collected another maximum for the Academy side.  Hasbeens played out two draws with NA Falcons and Torre Bats, with Richard Fitzgerald winning 5 of his 6 games, whilst Tony Nguyen had a maximum for Torre Bats.

Torbay Academy 6’s march to the Fourth Division title continued with a 9-1 win at Torre Tigers, the Sage brothers Curtis & Herbie keeping up their 100% averages with maximums. NA Kestrels’ 9-1 win over Pure Torre keeps them on course for the runners-up spot, with Peter Tarjan & Harry Usher unbeaten for the Kestrels.  Brixham Swifts defeated NA Owls 7-3, thanks to fine performances from Bradley Hilton & Tom Andrews; the Owls also lost to Torbay Academy 5, this time going down 6-4.

Having lost several consecutive games in the league, NA Owls upset the form book by recovering from 4-1 down at Taverners to win 5-4 and reach the semi-final of the Dyment Doubles shield.

Torbay Academy 6 march on in the Challenge cup, taking their exceptional League success into the Cup, brushing aside Taverners 5-0 to reach the semi-final.  Also making their way into the semi-final were NA Buzzards, who defeated Denbury Tykes 5-1.
