League Format Poll

In response to proposals from members about changing the format of the South Devon Table Tennis League divisions we are running an online poll to gauge opinion on the proposals.  Note that this poll is for interest only; any adoption of either proposal will only be made at the AGM.

Below is a brief overview of the proposals plus links to more detailed explanations.  The details are not necessarily finalized yet but hopefully this is enough to get an idea of which these proposals will involve.  If you have any questions please let me know and I will try to answer, or forward them on to the relevant proposer.  Also if you wish to see the documents in a different format please let me know and I will see what I can do.

The Brian Pengelly Proposal

In this system teams are split into divisions of 8.  Each division plays each other twice (14 games).  After this the top 4 go in to a championship/promotion group, the bottom 4 go in to a relegation group.  Each group plays either twice again (6 more games).  The winner is the team that comes top of the championship group.  Top two teams in the championship/promotion group are promoted; the bottom two teams in the relegation group are relegated.

The Steven Metcalfe Proposal

In this system there are effectively two championships a year.  Teams are split into divisions of 6.  Each division plays each other twice (10 games) before Christmas.  The top two teams in each division are promoted, the bottom two teams in each division are relegated.  After Christmas each new division plays each other twice again for a new competition, teams promoted and relegated in the same way as in the first round.

The Status Quo

Continue as we are now.  Teams are assigned to divisions at the start of the season by the committee based on performances the previous season, ratings and knowledge of player standards with the aim of having competitive divisions for all teams.  Teams play simple round robins playing each other either two or three times depending on the number of teams in the division.  Promotion and relegation is not automatic.

Update: to clarify, the poll is for members only so you need to be logged in to vote.  If you have any feedback on the options, or on the poll itself, please send them to me at davdav_2000@gmx.com.
