Two more wins this week for NA Falcons put them in the driving seat at the top of the 2^nd Division, still with games in hand. The Falcons’ Giles Tushingham and Ed Crawford with maximums defeated Taverners 7-3, and without maximum men Tushingham & Crawford went on to beat Torbay Academy 4 by the same scoreline.  Jeremy Broad, Paul Humphries and David Davies with 2 wins each representing the Falcons this time out, were unable to get past Tom Ricketts, who picked up the Academy’s 3 points. NA Eagles sit 7 points behind the Falcons in the runners-up spot following a comfortable 9-1 victory over club mates NA Hawks. Curtis Sage and Jim McIvor gained maximums for the Eagles, whilst Mike Dummett took the point for the Hawks, preventing the whitewash. Brixham Seals’ Philip Avery was in fine form as he helped his side to a 7-3 victory over Marldon to keep the pressure on the top two.

Denbury Tykes made it 17 wins out of 17 at the top of the 3^rd Division, with Paul Hine still unbeaten as he got his 17th successive maximum in their 8-2 win over 3^rd placed Dawlish Diamonds.  They haven’t shaken off their club colleagues from Marldon though, as they too have won 17 matches. Chris Garner was man of the match as they defeated Torbay Academy 5 8-2 and they trail the Denbury Tykes by 8 points. Behind the two leaders there are still battles to win and places to climb in the table. Torbay Academy 5, with a maximum from Craig Collins, recovered from their defeat against Marldon Tykes with a 6-4 win over Hasbeens. The busy Hasbeens then picked up a win as they defeated Brixham Dolphins 6-4, with Mike Coxhead unbeaten for the Hasbeens.  NA Kestrels’ Dale Fabian, Derek Stratton and Peter Tarjan whitewashed a weakened Torre Tigers team, who can now not avoid finishing at the foot of the table.

Torbay Academy 6 have climbed above their colleagues Academy 7 at the top of the 4^th Division following their 10-0 win over Brixham Swifts.  While Torbay Academy 7 were pushed all the way in a 6-4 win over third placed NA Owls, Jamie McGuire took another maximum for the Academy.  An Andrew Connor maximum helped Torres R Us to an 8-2 victory over Dawlish Dodgers. NA Ospreys had a fine 9-1 victory over Dawlish Drifters, with Rob Ferguson and Sam Hiles unbeaten for the Ospreys. In an all-Newton Abbot clash, the Vultures defeated the Kites 6-4, the Vultures’ Peter Sercombe gaining a maximum, well supported by Andy Guy and Jeff Herne.

NA Batmen closed the gap at the top of the First Division as the leaders Torbay Academy 1 had the week off. The Batmen, with Dennis Gibbs and Naomi Jackson maximums, defeated Torbay Academy 2 9-1. A terrific match between Brixham Sharks and NA Buzzards ended up all square at 5-5; Rory Harries had to fight for his maximum for the Sharks, with both Sonja Ryland and Kevin Nicholls going well for the Buzzards, Ryland just missing out to Harries in the deciding set.  Performance of the week goes to bottom side, Brixham Pirates, who picked up their first win of the season defeating club mates Gulls 6-4 and with only 2 players! Pirates’ Nicholas Shipley gained a maximum, supported well by Martin Sharp.
