PRESS REPORT – Sunday 11^th Nov

An impressive 8-2 win by Torbay Academy over current leaders NA Batmen was the standout result of the week, with Kris and Jakub Piwowar gaining maximums for the Academy side. NA Buzzards had their 2^nd whitewash victory in a row; Brixham Gulls were their opponents this time, as Sonja Ryland, Jon Cheung and Kevin Nicholls eased past the Gulls. Halwell were at the wrong end of another big margin as they went down 9-1 to NA Condors, with Condors Tim Burridge and Yannick Tushingham unbeaten, whilst Dave Wadling picked up Halwell’s solitary point.

The top two teams in the Second Division battled out a 5-5 draw. Torbay Academy 2, with another maximum from Warren Ngai, were always in front against the Eagles from Newton Abbot, but a fine team performance from the Eagles kept them in the hunt, and they clinched the draw with an excellent doubles victory.  Martin Sharp was man of the match as 3^rd placed Brixham Pirates beat NA Falcons 7-3.  Denbury Tykes picked up their first win of the season as they beat Taverners 7-3, with Pat Darch and Paul Hine taking maximums for the Tykes.  Brixham Trawlers, still looking for their first win, went down 3-7 to Marldon despite a fine maximum from Trawlers’ skipper, Alan Maynard.

In the 3^rd Division Torbay Academy’s Lucas Bradshaw and Ben Hoare were dominant in their 9-1 win over Brixham Dolphins. Dawlish Diamonds narrowly defeated Torbay Academy 4, despite a maximum from the Academy’s David Rowsell.  NA Kestrels’ Mitch Bellham was unbeaten as they had an excellent 8-2 win over Torbay Academy 5.

Its very tight at the top of the 4^th Division as the joint leaders both had 8-2 wins. Torre Titans with Chris Harper and Robert Excell unbeaten, saw off the challenge from Torbay Academy 6, whilst the Hasbeens, with an Alan Tyrrell maximum, defeated NA Owls.  Torre Tigers, with Jean Neafcy and Steve Tucker going well, beat Dawlish Drifters 9-1.  NA Kites, who were struggling early on in the season, found their form with a whitewash victory over Torre Panthers: Josh Redfern, Lewis Short and Richard Salt hitting their way to victory over a battling Panthers, team.

Brixham Swifts picked up their first win of the season, and a convincing one it was too, as they defeated Dawlish Delights 9-1. Marilyn Parton, James Rodger and Joseph Edwards won all their singles but could not take the final doubles. It was not a good week for the Newton Abbot teams in the Fifth Division as the Merlins lost out 6-4 to the Dawlish Dodgers, with Adrian Tee and Chris Tudball taking maximums for the Dodgers. The Vultures also lost 6-4, with Brixham Seals’ Ian Richards helping his side ease past the Vultures. And the Ospreys went down 7-3 to Torbay Academy 7, whose Kacper Piwowar was unbeaten.
