PRESS REPORT – Sunday 7^th Oct

Match of the day was a terrific battle between last year’s champions Torbay Academy 1 and Newton Abbot Buzzards. It ended 5-5 with the Academy coming from 5-3 down, thanks mainly to a superb performance from Patrik Cincala.  Brixham Sharks, with a Gordon Holmes maximum, saw off club mates the Gulls 8-2.  NA Batmen started their campaign at Halwell with a fine 9-1 win, Dennis and Shaun Gibbs unbeaten, and Halwell’s David Wadling preventing the whitewash.

Torbay Academy 2 were held to a 5-5 draw by NA Falcons in the Second Division, the Academy’s Warren Ngai taking a maximum, with Fred Burdett making his first appearance for the Falcons just losing out to Ngai, but picking up a couple for the Falcons. Playing 2 games in 2 days the Falcons picked up a 6-4 win over Denbury Tykes, Burdett making his maximum this time and Jeremy Broad also going well for the Falcons.

In the Third Division, Torbay Academy 3’s Ben Hoare, Elsa Perry and Matt Cooper whitewashed NA Kestrels, staking their claim to be the top team this season.  Marldon Tykes, also with very strong credentials, beat Brixham Dolphins 7-3, with the Tykes’ Chris Garner to the fore.  In an all-Torbay Academy clash the 5^th team beat the 4^th 6-4 despite a fine maximum by David Rowsell for the losers.  A Doug Morgan maximum helped his NA Hawks side to an 8-2 victory over Dawlish Diamonds.

In the Fourth Division the Torre Titans team of Bill Keywood, Robert Excell and Chris Harper whitewashed Dawlish Drifters. Also going well are the Owls from Newton Abbot, who defeated Torbay Academy 6 9-1, with the Bayliss boys Rowan and Dylan unbeaten, but the Academy’s Victor Bonfante defeat of Rob Bayliss preventing the whitewash.  The Panthers came out on top in an all-Torre affair, defeating the Tigers 8-2, with Andrew Connor picking up the man of the match for the Panthers.

Early pacesetters in the Fifth Division are Torbay Academy 7, whose Kacper Piwowar was unbeaten as they defeated NA Vultures 8-2.  There were two close encounters at Brixham and Newton Abbot, where club teams clashed. At Brixham the Seals just defeated the Swifts 6-4, and at Newton Abbot the Merlins shared the points with the Ospreys, as Eve James gained a fine maximum for the Merlins.
