PRESS REPORT – Sunday 22nd Dec 

 

Having reached the halfway point of the league season, we take a short break from league action during the Christmas period, however cup matches are played during this time. 

With a really good entry for the Dyment Handicap Team Doubles event a preliminary round match was required which saw the Taverners defeat Torbay Academy 7 by just 18 points, Geoff Read, Colin Harrop and Martin Dilkes winning 364-346.

The first round proper started with an all fourth division match between Dawlish Diamonds and NA Vultures which the Diamonds team of Prabhu Kashap, Peter Curtis and Frank Frain won by the narrowest of margins 330-329. 

Halwell’s Rod Sugden, Dave Wadling and Peter Symons saw off the challenge from Marldon Tykes, winning 334-297. Second division Marldon were too consistent for fourth division NA Merlins, Helen Glover, George Breyley & Ed Thompson defeating the Newton Abbot side by 359-312.

In an all Newton Abbot affair the Kestrels team of Rob Williams, Ed Moffatt and Bruce Freeman beat the Harriers 380-339.

Following a recalculation of the scores the result between Torbay Academy 6 and NA Ospreys was overturned giving victory to the Academy 6 team of Vic Bonfante, Jean Neafcy and Denis Cramond by 362-331.

The holders of the Dyment Doubles Shield Torbay Academy 1 were defeated by the Brixham Trawler’s team of Ian Saxby, Nick Williamson and Marilyn Parton 300-377.

The youngsters from second division Torbay Academy 3, Alessandro Mitranescu, Kacper Piwowar and Ivan Vaplaks comfortably beat first division Brixham Pirates 294-210.

NA Owls team of Josh Redfern with Rob and Rowan Bayliss, going well in the third division, were too strong for fourth division Brixham Swifts winning 395-289.

In a much closer match between Newton Abbot and Brixham teams both playing in the third division NA Kites narrowly defeated the Brixham Seals by 13 points. Quillan Wilson, Derek Stratton and Kevin Payne winning 353-340.

In a delayed first round Challenge Cup handicap Singles match NA Vultures team of Mark Heather, Michael Bow and Jasem Abu Ali defeated the Brixham Swifts team 359-286
