SOUTH DEVON & TORBAY TABLE TENNIS LEAGUE – SPONSORED BY ALBANY FLORISTS

PRESS REPORT – Sunday 6th Jan

Just one re-arranged League match and a couple of Dyment Doubles cup matches played this week, as we eagerly await the resumption of the season next week, following the Christmas break.

NA Batmen, with a convincing 9-1 win over Halwell, climbed up to the runners-up spot in the First Division. Dennis and Shaun Gibbs were unbeaten for the Batmen. Mike Kiff’s defeat by Halwell’s Dave Wadling provided Halwell with a point, which was enough to lift them off the bottom of the table.

Fourth Division Torre Titans proved far too strong for 5th Division NA Merlins in the first round of the Dyment Doubles cup. Chris Harper, Robert Excell and Bill Keywood easily overcame their handicap, as the inexperienced Merlins struggled with service return.

Third Division NA Kestrels used their handicap well as they edged in front against a fighting Marldon from the Second Division. Close for most of the match, the Kestrels’ Derek Stratton, Mitch Bellham and Robert Williams eventually won by 46 points, and will face another Second Division side in the next round – the high-flying Torbay Academy 2.
