SOUTH DEVON & TORBAY TABLE TENNIS LEAGUE – SPONSORED BY ALBANY FLORISTS

2019-20 SEASON PREVIEW

With a similar number of players and teams as last season, the Albany Florists-sponsored South Devon & Torbay Table Tennis League 2019-20 season kicks off next week.  The League’s Executive Committee has decided to revert to four larger divisions as opposed to the five smaller divisions used last season.

The team to beat in the top Division will again be Torbay Academy 1, looking to be champions for the 4th successive season. Newton Abbot TTC have 4 teams, all hoping to put a challenge in: last season’s runners up NA Batmen & 3rd placed NA Buzzards will be looking to improve whilst NA Condors and newly promoted NA Eagles will be hoping to establish themselves in the top flight. Brixham TTC have 3 teams in the top division, led by the always competitive Brixham Sharks. The experienced Brixham Gulls and newly promoted Brixham Pirates will be looking to make their mark, as will Halwell.

Increasing the size of the top division has meant several of the better players stepping up which will make the second division even more competitive this time around.  Newton Abbot Falcons look strong along with three established second division sides Brixham Trawlers, Taverners and Marldon.  Torbay Academy 2 & 3, full of  improving youngsters, will again be very competitive.  The Tykes have both of their teams, Denbury Tykes and Marldon Tykes, in the second division and Newton Abbot have a further two teams, the Hawks and Kestrels, moving up from Division Three and hoping to cause a few upsets in the higher division.

The two teams at the top of the fourth division last season, Hasbeens and Torre Titans, will be hoping to be challenging at the top of the third division this time round. NA Owls should be there or thereabouts as will the Academy teams 4 & 5. Brixham have the Dolphins and Seals looking to make their mark. Torre also have their Panthers in the third division and Newton Abbot have the Harriers and Kites with several players making the step up to the higher level.

Torbay Academy 6 & 7 could be fighting between themselves at the top of the fourth division.  A new team from The Grove in Totnes will be hoping to challenge the Academy in their first season in the league. Dawlish have a couple of teams in this division the Diamonds and the Dynamos. The Ospreys and Merlins from Newton Abbot are virtually unchanged while the Vultures also from Newton Abbot have several new faces making their league debuts, as do the Swifts from Brixham.

So another excellent season is anticipated as Table Tennis continues to flourish in the area.  If you fancy giving it a go then check out the clubs in the area on the League website, who will all welcome new players of any ability. https://www.tabletennis365.com/SouthDevonAndTorbay
