Match Report

A fantastically competitive match which saw Tykes come out on top for the second time this season.

The first set of the evening set the tone for things to come with Paul edging out Colin in 5 tight games - winning the 5th 12-10.

Colin’s fortunes reversed in his next 5 game set beating Pat 13-11 in the 5th.

The close matches continued all night with Huw beating Geoff but losing to Colin and Pat beating old teammate Martin.

With one match left for Tykes to play (against Trawlers) there is still hope to stay in Div 2 on points - but Tykes undoubted ability is more suited to this division when you consider their opponents tonight could finish fourth and Tykes have beaten them twice this season - we will have to wait and see .....

Another really enjoyable evening between two evenly matches teams - where home advantage seems to be the extra edge needed.

Pat

I would like to, on behalf of the Taverners team, reiterate and support the comments made by Pat.

Last night's match was another fine example in what has been a very competitive table tennis season; in fact, in my opinion, the best in recent seasons in Division 2!

The whole evening not only produced a good standard of play but each set was extremely hard fought, very sporting and with a close result to finish. Coupled with a bit of banter/chat and refreshments it was most enjoyable.

Denbury Tykes fully deserved their 6-4 win to complete a double against Taverners at the Village Hall. Taverners again found it "hard going" but credit must go to the Denbury players for raising their performance against us.

Finally, whether Denbury Tykes finish 8th in Division 2 will be decided in the next couple of weeks of course but what is clear is that with their current team DT have been competitive throughout and have fully contributed to an excellent season of table tennis.
