The final round of the Junior League got off to a good start as Jared won all his matches against Southampton and both Ollie and Harry lost only one each to finish Winchester 4- Southampton 2.
Weymouth A were always going to be tricky. Jared came through to beat Will Joliffe 3-1. Ollie took the first game against Jamie Blair but eventually succumbed in 4. Harry had a long drawn out match against Ryan Dedman winning 3-2 in the end. Jared narrowly lost out to Jamie in 4 after taking the first game against him. Harry lost to Will in 3 but Ollie won a 3 game match against Ryan which brought the overall score to 3-3.
Bournemouth B proved an easier run for our lads; we lost only one match to end with a final score of 5-1.
We comprehensively overcame Weymouth B with a 6-0 victory but the team they fielded were stronger than the last; we were taken to four games in two of the matches.
Finally, our nemesis, Bournemouth A were again strong with some fine attacking play. Jared had arguably the match of the day with a blinding five setter against Ali Malloch who made a stunning recovery after being 2 match points down in the third! Jared didn’t have much rest time to recover after that before playing and unfortunately losing out To Kai Major in 3. Neither Harry nor Ollie won against Matt Stansfield and in the end we got clobbered 6-0.
At the end of the tournament we came second to Bournemouth A who topped out with 106 set wins and 14 set losses; we ended with 76 set wins against 56 losses. Our nearest rivals below, Weymouth A finished with 64 set wins and 56 losses.
Medals weren’t available on the day due to an administration error but our congratulations anyway go to our team Jared Schaller, Harry Gavins and Ollie Kierans. Well done lads, a great effort.
