Gary Young was in fine form this week as he helped Hullbridge B beat Lentern A 5-4, his performance including good wins against Django Fung and Terry Guymer. Castle Point’s Chris Jacobs experience held him in good stead to win all his games including 2 hard fought games in 5 against Warehouse A. Richard Jackman's patient defensive skills securing him a great hat trick in the same match.  Thorpe Bay A continued their strong start to the season overcoming a strong Rawreth C side 8-1. Some close games which Thorpe Bay came out the right side on, Ben Warner recording the only win for Rawreth but a good win nonetheless over Alex Abbott.  Rayleigh Mill produced a fine display as they ran out 8-1 winners over Thorpe Bay B. Duncan Taylor and Minda Sinkus remained undefeated and Steve Maltby also in good form as he recorded good wins against Gurj Bhambra and Kieran Skeggs, Richard Stubbington with the consolation for the Bay    Duncan

Week 2 and the pacesetters from week one continued to press home their early advantage with two teams from Hadleigh Forum and two from Lentern making up the top 4 spots. Both Hadleigh Forum B and Lentern B repeated their scores with 8-1 victories against Rawreth E and Lentern D respectively. Undefeated Mick Tappenden and Tony Jacks added three each for the Forum team with Anthon unable to match them losing out to John Blackman from the Rawreth team. Justin Jeffrey took Anthon all the way to 5 sets but lost 13-11 in the decider.  In the local Lentern derby, undefeated Paul Churn for Lentern B was joined on 3 wins by Gus Heath returning from his Summer health scare, with John Lott unluckily losing to Peter Lucraft in 5, winning the sole point for the D team. Hadleigh Forum C moved up the table with a convincing 6-3 win against newcomers, Invicta A, who had Steve Marr and Dave Barnes to thank for their 3 points, although neither could do anything against Dave Thomas for the Forum team who left with a maximum on the night. In the other Lentern derby match, Lentern C managed a narrow 5-4 win against Lentern E, thanks to a hattrick from Mike Grout and 2 from Les Tayler, Brian Farmer scored 2 for the E side. Hockley A are finding things difficult in this division with their second loss, this time 6-3 to a strong Warehouse B team. Sam Langton ended up unbeaten on the night with support from both Tarun Goel and Jim Stait. For the Hockley team, Tony Vassallo put up most resistance winning two of his games but losing in the fifth to Sam.  Finally, Customs A with a full complement and Roy Thomas back on the team looked too strong for the young (apart from Howard) Hullbridge D team coming out 7-2 winners. Both Roy Thomas and Dale Gutteridge were too strong for the youngsters, but both Zoe Davies and Dan Payne managed wins over Brian Rackham to score their sides two points. Coach, Howard Grant, who played in the team, was unable to make any impression on the Customs players    Barrie

Division 2 - DRS - David Barnes                    dbarnes89@btinternet.com

Visitors Castle Point B overpowered Hullbridge F 9 – 0 with three wins each for Tony Ayliffe, Martin Roberts and Keith Neville.  Hockley B kept up their early pace, overcoming hosts Hullbridge E 8 – 1, thanks to maximums from Dennis Squirrell and Matthew Stringer. Paul Ogden saved the home team’s blushes.  In a close match, Warehouse C overcame Basildon Hospital 6 – 3, thanks to an unbeaten evening for Tarun Goel. He was aided by two wins from Darren Launder. Dean Baker won two for the Hospital.  Warehouse D emulated their C team by winning 6 – 3 away at Canvey C. Although the home side’s Geoff Banthorpe was unbeaten all evening, two wins apiece for Dave Walton, Phil Mardle and Ro Brett saw the visitor clear    David

DIVISION 3 - DRS Paul Strutt                        paulstrut@tiscali.co.uk

Just two games played in Div. 3 and Invicta B made it two wins out of two with a 6-3 victory over Warehouse E. Graham Back scored a double for Warehouse with Tamas Mezo adding the third. In the other game Hockley C took on the youngsters of Hullbridge G and came away with a convincing 8-1 win.
