October 2015 Newsletter

Sdttl October Newsletter

Well it’s October, it’s Autumn and the nights are drawing in. More importantly, we are five weeks into the 2015/16 Winter Season.

Echo Newspaper   There have been Reports published for the first 3 Weeks, the last two in the Tuesday Edition. The Echo require the Articles to be limited to 400 words and we will concentrate in depth on one Division each week, plus the winners in the other Divisions: our thanks to Chris Phillips of the Echo for doing this for us.

The Summer League   Final Tables are on our Web Site: congratulations to the Winners of each Division: Lentern A (Division 1),  Bluehouse (Division 2), Basildon Hospital (Division 3) and Wakering (Division 4) and a big ‘thank you’ to Barrie Delf who ran the Summer League and Chris Jacob who did the Reports.

Winter League    The Winter League is now well under way and most of the early Season niggles have been sorted out. Virtually everyone has paid their Table Tennis England Registrations, which is a very good effort by our Members. The 4 Divisional Results Secretaries are sending in Weekly Reports and keeping the Results up to date. Ken sends these Reports to all our Members via our 365 Email System and Berti puts them on our Web Site. Thank you to our 4 DRSs: Duncan Taylor (Prem), Barrie Delf (1st), David Barnes (2nd) and Paul Strutt (3rd).

Inter-League   Kevin Read is overseeing this and we have a Men's Team, an Over 60s Team, 1 Vets Team, a Cadet and a Junior Team: all looks set for a good Season.

The Essex Junior Assessment Trials   These will be held at BATTs over the weekend of the 31 October/01 November.  Entry forms are on the Essex County website, so, if you’ve not already done so and want to enter, please get your entry into Arthur Clarke as soon as possible.

The Bill Smith Hardbat Tournament    This is planned for Saturday 27th November at Hullbridge.  All entries are to be sent to Bill Smith.  Entry is £5 and can be paid on the day.  This is the first of Southend’s Annual Tournaments of the 2015/16 season and normally attracts some 20 Hardbat Stalwarts each year.  On that evening, the medals will be presented. Also that night will be a Charity Sing-a-Long / Dancing. The aim is to raise money for the, Cancer Key Hole Surgery Trust’: a worthy cause.   Bill Smith is running the Hard Bat Event and John Lott the Sing-along / Dancing: Tickets for the evening are £4.00 per head.  As I said, this is a worthy cause, so if you can support the evening, it would be very much appreciated.

The Essex Closed   This once popular event is returning after a 6 year gap. It will be held on the 29 & 30 April and the 1st May at the Rayleigh Leisure Centre. More information on this will follow over the next few months.

The Southend Closed   This will again be held in February: details of this will be on our Web next month. The Under 21s will be held on Tues. 16th @ the Megazone Centre (The Warehouse); the Over 70s at Rawreth on Wed. 17th & Thurs. 18th and the Main Events @ Rayleigh Leisure Centre  on Frid 19th, Sat 20th & Sun 21st; with Finals night on Tues. 23rd at Hullbridge: the full Entry Form will appear on our Web Site next month.

So, that covers our start to the Season, whether you are a Junior, Senior or Vet, we hope we have something for you.

Hope you’re enjoying your Season,

Jayne Johnson
