SUMMER LEAGUE 2015 - WEEK 5 REPORT

Sdttl Summer League Report for week commencing 21st June 2015

Bottom team Hadleigh Forum were involved in games against the top two teams in Division 1 of the Southend and District Summer League, they lost 9-0 to current leaders Lentern and in their game against Rawreth they lost 7-2, although both Tony Jacks and John Tendler did well to get the better of Sid Dorn in their singles. Castle Point beat Hullbridge "B" 5-4 in a game where Andrew Halling had a good victory over Richard Jackman and likewise Andy Seaman over Dave Calleja, but they could not prevent Hullbridge from losing.

In Division 2 Matt Stringer was unbeaten in leading Hockley "A" to a 5-4 victory at Kingswood. Tony Westwell won both of his singles and a doubles with Terry the taxi in leading Canvey "A" to victory over Invicta "A" in a game where no one remained unbeaten and everyone was involved in at least one win. Simon Jacob was unbeaten in Castle Point "B" 6-3 win over Bluehouse, where Mark Jupe and Les Hoey had a good win in the final doubles 11-9, 11-9, 11-7 over Barrie Delf and Martin Roberts.

In Division 3, Keith Abbott was unbeaten for Hockley "B" in their 8-1 win against Castle Point "C" who had Tony Ayliffe and Colin Smith getting their sole point in the last doubles with a 13-11, 13-11, 11-7 win over Dennis Squirrell and Stuart Adshead. They also had a good 5-4 win over Basildon Hospital where Dennis Squirrell was their star in a game decided in the final doubles 11-9 in the fifth end with victory for Dennis and Laurie Witt over Clive Beauchamp and Kevin Smart. Two wins for ace defender Geoff Banthorpe over Ron Coutts and Sarah Mapes was the only points that Canvey "B" gained in their 7-2 loss to RESSC who had Paul Ogden unbeaten. 

Canvey "C" beat Rawreth Juniors "A" 8-1 in Division 4, the Juniors sole point coming from Matthew Barber beating Terry Castile. Harry Keys and Archie Blackburn were unbeaten for Canvey. Wakering are still to drop a point after another 9-0 win over Hockley "C". It will be interesting to see if they can get through the whole season without dropping a single point, Chris Jacob
