2018-19 Week 3 Report

Week 3 of the Spalding and District Table Tennis League’s new season saw the official start to the league matches, of which there were six, one having been played early.

Nets n Edges had a busy Division 1 night playing two matches, one brought forward from week 7, but they both came out at 0 – 5 defeats.

The Appleby brothers (Moulton SE) were far too strong and although they conceded an end to Reece Kerry in a singles and another in the doubles they were rarely in any serious trouble.

The match against JDM was a similar tale, with Kerry picking up two ends and a deuce game, plus another end and a deuce in the doubles.

However Tom and John Chesworth, with Phil Chandler, in the doubles had few other scares.

JDM’s unfinished match with Underdogs was not completed due to the absence of an opponent and so the final game was awarded to JDM under Rule 12 leaving the score at 2 – 3.

South Holland’s final game against Jokers suffered a similar fate, but with neither player attending the game was declared void with Holland 3 – 1 up.

Unfortunately the same happened in Division 2 with Hit and Hope waiting on Hurricane Brothers.

With no rearrangement made a 5 – 0 win was given.

All three results stand, though no doubt there will be appeals.

Team TJ’s first match saw them come up against strong opposition in Rusty Nails.

Unsurprisingly they went down 0 – 5 but they performed well, taking an end in the doubles and Jack Sawyer forcing one match to the fifth end.

Two new teams, Deeping Lads and Assassins, faced off in the other lower tier match.

The singles were shared, with Carlos Caneiro, the most experienced player, winning his two for Assassins while Chris Davis and Martyn Boyle took one each for the Lads.

The latter then added the doubles for a 3 – 2 win.

Unfortunately it seems Caneiro’s partner has had to withdraw from the league so the search is on for a replacement.

The final match of the evening saw Holland complete a whitewash over the Netters in their Moulton Shield match with a win for Jean White.

Anyone wishing to try our sport will be most welcome at the High School Sports Hall on a Tuesday evening from 7:30 to 10 at £4 for the evening.
