A quiet night of competition was likely for the Spalding and District Table Tennis League in week 5 as it was round 2 of the Moulton Shield.
With just four matches scheduled, one of which had been played early only, three tables were booked for matches.
However one league match was brought forward and seven tables in all were used, members and visitors taking the opportunity for plenty of practice.
In the Cup Mine’s a Pint faced returnees TNC.
The first three games went to the Pinter’s Andrew Hay and Jeremy Hitcham, but TNP’s Adrian Louis and Matt Cole pushed them all the way.
Game 1 produced three deuces, while games two and three both went to the deciding end with another deuce game in each.
The dead rubbers also went to Mine’s a Pint but were equally hard fought.
Moulton SE faced Outsiders who were solely represented by Joe Beadle.
However Andrew and Stephen Appleby were too strong, winning both games, though Beadle did force the latter to a decider.
Team TJ had a similar problem with Jack Sawyer on his own.
Underdog’s Kelvin Preville was, as expected, too strong, but Sawyer gave Dylan Taylor a fright, forcing a deuce in the first end and winning the second comfortably before Taylor won through.
It is expected that both matches will be completed tonight. (Tues)
Beadle had a busy evening as he also played two singles in a league match against JDM which was brought forward.
Facing the father/son duo of John and Tom Chesworth he lost out in the first in four but took the second to level.
It was a pleasure to see two visitors, one a visitor to our town, come and join us.
Anyone else wishing to try our sport will be most welcome at the High School Sports Hall on a Tuesday evening from 7:30 to 10 at £4 for the evening.
