STAFFORD TABLE TENNIS
In the only first division match this week Weston Quasars defeated County Officers A 8-2. Darren Jones and Bruce Royle both posted maximums.
Weston Pioneers open up a four point gap at the top of division two through an 8-2 success against County Officers Saints. Lisa Brown and Clive Cropper picked up three wins and Ken Humphries two.
Bradley House C got the better of County Officers B 6-4. John Mountford collected a treble and Janine Illingworth and James Cotterill doubles. Mountford and Illingworth then combined to win the vital doubles against Cotterill and Luke Talbot 7-11, 11-6, 11-3, 8-11, 11-4.
House C were not so fortunate in their second match of the week going down 8-2 to Burton Manor Greys with their only resistance coming from Gerald Crookes with a pair. For the Greys Tim Presswood was unbeaten while Frank Chapman and John Hartley gained a brace each.
In the only first division match Stone beat Burton Manor Defenders 6-4 to move back into second place on sets difference only over Bradley House A, who have a game in hand. Dennis Camp, Brendan Sullivan, Ian Moore and Cyril Merriman all picked up a pair each. Phil Birchall and Dennis Camp combined to win the vital doubles 10-12, 11-4, 11-9, 11-8 against Moore and Merriman to give Stone the win.
In division two there were two matches. The first saw County Officers Tapirs defeat County Officers C 7-3 despite a Nigel Cotton maximum. Robert Stone, Natan and Jon Phillips all gained a brace each.
The other fixture between Burton Manor Greys and Weston Voyagers ended all square. For the Voyagers Steve Gadsby collected three wins and the Greys Tim Presswood and Allan Cooke two each. The doubles was closely fought with Steve Gadsby and Alistair Wright playing Tim Presswood and John Hartley with the success going to the Voyagers 6-11, 14-12, 11-4, 7-11 and 11-9.
Burton Manor Vikings beat second placed side Stone 8-2 to consolidate their position at the top of division one. Tony Jeynes collected a treble and Gareth Dunn, Colin Burgess and Neil Hough doubles. Bradley House A seized the opportunity to move back into second with a whitewash over their own B team.
House B also went down 8-2 to Burton Manor Marauders with the Marauders also beating County Officers A 7-3. Will Ferry and Adrian Hough both gained six of there best. Burton Manor Defenders drew both their matches against Weston Apollo and Weston Comets. Ian Moore was unbeaten in both. Best for the Apollo was Bob Elliott with a double.
The Comets had a second draw this time against Weston Quasars. Glen Cowper picked up four out of six. Darren Jones posted a maximum for the Quasars.
In the top of the table clash in division two Weston Pioneers came out on top 6-4 against Burton Manor Villains. Ken Humphries gained a treble and Lisa Brown and Ian James doubles. Weston Eclipse stay in third with a draw against Weston Voyagers. Toby Burrows scored three wins and Graham Brackstone two.
County Officers C broke their duck for the season when they forced a draw with Bradley House C thanks to a Nigel Cotton maximum. Gerald Crookes and Janine Illingworth replied with a brace each. Burton Manor Greys defeated County Officers B 7-3. Keith Litherland, Frank Chapman, Tim Presswood and Allan Cooke all collected a pair each.
County Officers Saints got the better of County Officers Tapirs 8-2. Fernando Elgarrista picked up treble and John Short and Grant Duberry doubles.
It was a rest week for the majority of teams in the Stafford Table Tennis league. However some teams caught up on previously postponed fixtures. Stone got the better of Weston Quasars 7-3 despite an unbeaten performance from Darren Jones. Dennis Camp, Danny and Brendan Sullivan replied with a pair each.
Bradley House A lost their 100 per cent record when they went down 6-4 to Burton Manor Marauders. Adrian Hough picked up a treble and Will Ferry and Roger Butler doubles. Stone took advantage of this to move into the runners-up position on sets difference only from the House with their second success of the week 7-3 against County Officers A. Phil Birchall and Dennis Camp both collected maximums.
The only two pointless teams in division two faced each other with County Officers B coming out on top of County Officers C 8-2. James Cotterill and Luke Talbot posted three wins each and Vic Stanway two.
The Burton Manor Vikings squad of Gareth Dunn, Colin Burgess, Alison Phillips, Tony Jeynes and Chris Elkin open up a lead at the top of division one with 10-0 and 9-1 victories over Burton Manor Defenders and County Officers A. Alison Phillips dropped the only game to the Officers Lee Palser.
Bradley House A stay in touch in second with a whitewash over Weston Comets. Weston Apollo gained their first win of season 9-1 against Weston Quasars. Bob Pugh and Jim Kelly were unbeaten while Steve Maud picked up the Quasars consolation against Eric Schwarzer.
Weston Pioneers continue to lead the way in division two with a 9-1 defeat of Weston Voyagers. Roger Peet and Ken Humphries both won their three while Lisa Brown failed in one to Steve Gadsby. On the same points are Burton Manor Villains after a 9-1 success against County Officers Tapirs. Three wins each came from Roy Tinkler and Hazel Waters with Paul Richards losing one to Nathan Phillips.
Weston Eclipse remain third after beating Burton Manor Greys 8-2. Toby Burrows and Steve Bunyan posted maximums. The Greys recovered to beat County Officers C 9-1. Allan Cooke and Tim Presswood picked up three wins and John Hartley two. Colin Rawles gained the Officers sole game.

Burton Manor Vikings march on at the top of division one with a 10-0 win over bottom side Bradley House B, who also lost by the same score to Stone. On the same points as the Vikings are Bradley House A following an 8-2 victory over Weston Apollo. Roger Butler picked up a treble and Tim Goodliff, Peter Drew and Jim Kelly doubles.
The Apollo also went down 7-3 to Burton Manor Marauders who also defeated Weston Comets by the same score. Adrain Hough collected six of the best and Will Ferry five. The Comets were also on the losing side again when they went down 9-1 to Stone. Phil Birchall and Dennis Camp gained maximums while the Comets consolation came from Glen Cowper against Maurice Adams.
Burton Manor Defenders also won 9-1 against Weston Quasars. Ian Moore and Dennis Davies were unbeaten while Dave Ferry dropped one game to Darren Jones.

Division two frontrunners Burton Manor Villains and Weston Pioneers both whitewashed their recent opposition County Officers B and Burton Manor Greys respectively. The same result was posted by County Officers Saints against their own C team. Two wins each from Bill Barber and Robert Stone put County Officers Tapirs on course for a share of the points with Weston Eclipse. The Eclipse went on to defeat Bradley House C 7-3. Steve Bunyan won all six of his games. The House recovered to get the better of Weston Voyagers 8-2. John Mountford picked up five out of six and Gerald Crooks three.
In the first division Bradley House A got off the mark with a 6-4 success against Stone A. Danny Sullivan, Dennis Camp, Roger Butler and Peter Drew all picked up a pair each. Butler and Tim Goodliff combined to win the vital doubles for the House. County Officers A got the better of Bradley House B 7-3. Lee Palser and Cliff Bell both scored maximums.

Burton Manor Vikings started their defence of the title in fine style beating Weston Quasars and Weston Apollo 7-3 and 10-0 respectively. Burton Manor Defenders got the better of Bradley House B 9-1 with Dave Clark gaining their consolation game against Dennis Davies. Bradley House B also went down 7-3 to Weston Comets despite a pair from Dave Clark. The Comets also defeated County Officers 6-4 despite a Cliff Bell maximum. Bill Lu scored five out of six and Glen Cowper four. Weston Apollo and County Officers A shared the points in a five all draw. Jim Kelly picked up a treble and Cliff Bell and Neil Caldwell doubles.
In division two Weston Eclipse maintain their unbeaten start with 7-3 and 6-4 wins against County Officers C and B. Steve Bunyan, Anthony Watson and Brian Gitsham all collected maximums in their sole appearances. Best for the opposition was Nigel Cotton with a brace. Also unbeaten are Weston Pioneers following a 6-4 win against Bradley House C. Lisa Brown, Clive Cropper and Ken Humphries all posted a pair each. Bradley House C went on to defeat County Officers Tapirs 7-3. John Mountford against the Pioneers and Janine Illingworth against the Tapirs scored three wins each in their individual matches.
The Tapirs recovered to beat Burton Manor Greys 8-2. For the Tapirs Jon Phillips posted a treble and Nathan Phillips (against the House), Robert Stone and Thomas Eyton-Jones doubles. The Greys also went down 9-1 to the other undefeated side Burton Manor Villains. The Villains also beat County Officers Saints 8-2. Roy Tinkler picked up six of the best and Steve Cotterill five while Hazel Waters and Keith Brown three each in their one-off appearances..The Saints managed to pick up a point with a draw against Weston Voyagers. John Short gained a treble and Alistair Wright and Thomas Morris doubles each.
With no results received from the first division this week the focus was on the two matches played in the second division. Newcomers Burton Manor Greys opened their account with a 7-3 victory against Bradley House C despite a Gerald Crookes maximum, Tim Presswood, John Hartley and Allen Cooke all picked up a pair each to consolidate their first victory in the league.
The match between Burton Manor Villains and Weston Voyagers was a closer affair with the Villains coming out on top with a 6-4 win mainly due to a Steve Cotterill maximum. Steve Gadsby and Grete Willecy replied with a brace each. Cotterill combined with Roy Tinkler to get extra point in the doubles by defeating Willecy and Peter Harrison 11-9, 11-7, 11-3.
