Eaglescliffe B got back to winning ways with a resounding 10-0 win over bottom of the table Westbourne A. Peter Able offered the most resistance for Westbourne especially against Martin Rutter taking him to 5 ends, however Eaglescliffe’s class shone through with Danny Welsh Standing out. Northfield Meerkats secured their 4thwin of the season at the expense of an understrength Northfield Belatrojo running out 7-3 winners. John Crawford claimed the MOTM award on the night but was asked to work hard. Kevin Linsey just lost out in 4 tight ends, however it was Karl Shaw & Mick Young that feel they both could have claimed wins against Crawford after both being 2-0 up until Crawford forged a comeback in both matches, taking the next 3 ends to claim 2 fine victories, Crawford winning 12-10 in the 5thagainst Young capping off a fine night. Northfield patriots stayed in front of the Meerkats holding on to 2ndin the table after a 6-4 win over Eaglescliffe A with only 2 men. Match of the night was Lindsay Taylor just overcoming Nick Corking in a titanic battle. Corking, aiming for his first ever win over Taylor took the first 2 games with excellent service return and counter hitting but it was Taylor who used all his all his experience coming from 5-7 down in the 3rdend to pinch that and take the next two 8 & 8 to claim victory.
In Division 2 Northfield Steelers kept ahead of the pack with a comfortable 8-2 win over Northfield Hippos, Tommy Webster claiming yet another MOTM award but was asked a few questions by Jane Durham, winning in 5, Durham winning her other 2 Matches for the Hippo’s only points on the night. Fighting for second place as we near the halfway stage are Hartlepool Westbourne B & Eaglescliffe C. Westbourne B running out 9-1 winners over the Wanderers, Andy Greason proving too strong, Eaglescliffe C also had a good 8-2 win over 5thplaced Westbourne C with Malcolm Noble having a good night. Hot on their heels are Eaglescliffe D who also had an 8-2 win over Bishop Auckland Braves with John Shallow’s defensive game proving too tricky for the Braves. Elsewhere Northfield Real Sosobad clawed back some points on Stockton Cricket Club with an 8-2 win, Steve Burge winning his 3 including a great win over the experienced Peter Philips.
