Week 9

The Stockton & District Table Tennis league served up some festive treats as we lead up to the Christmas Break. Eaglescliffe B maintained the pressure on the top 2 with a good nights work beating Northfield Belatrojo 8-2. All Eaglescliffe’s players performed fantastically on the night with Luke Bradburn the shining star. Jeff Salter kicked things off with a fine win over Ben Savage who has some notable scalps so far this season. Nick Corking then came back from 2-0 down to beat Troy Maddison 11-9 in the 5th. Luke Bradburn then started his fine nights work with a comprehensive win over the vastly experienced John Crawford 3-0. This was Crawford’s heaviest defeat of the season loosing 5,4 & 6. Corking then had an epic battle with Savage who went 2-1 up after some fantastic attacking table tennis from both players. Corking then drew level but only to find himself 0-6 down in the 5thend. Using his experience he then staged  a revival to eventually have a match point, however Savage survived and eventually took the match 14-12. Eaglescliffe then ran out worthy winners with Corking gaining his first win over Crawford in a number of years. Neighbours Eaglescliffe A caught up a little ground with a 10-0 win over Northfield Meerkats. Meerkats fought hard but were outclassed on the night with only Gary Whyman stretching martin Rutter taking him to 5. Danny Welsh earned his 3rdMOTM award of the season with another fine display. Alex Garlick pushed Welsh for the gong but dropped an unexpected end to David Noutch who always gives 100%. Elsewhere Tony Langley was full of Festive Cheer with his 3 fine wins, however Phil Webster & Peter Able almost spoilt the party. Apart form the loss to Langley, Able had good reason to be cheerful  with 2 wins over Stephen Baines & Ian Plumber. Plumber & Baines took the doubles 12-10 in the 5thto confirm the 8-2 win.

In Division 2 Hartlepool Westbourne B 2 kept their noses in front with a routine 10-0  win over Northfield Hippos however Lauren Parfitt fought well for the Hippos but was no match for Alan Price who was MOTM. Northfield Steelers made sure the gap at the top remained 3 points with their own 10-0 win over Hartlepool Westbourne C. Dave Drummond, fresh from his 1stDivision outing last week, denied Tom Webster a clean sweep of the MOTM awards this season with a classy performance. Steve Burge played so so good winning his 3 against Wanderers Peoples centre to help Northfield Sosobad to a 6-4 win. With 4 of the nights matches going to 5 ends this was a hard fought win over bottom of the table Wanderers. Stockton Cricket Club continued their winning ways with a 7-3 win over the ever battling  Bishop Auckland Braves. Peter Philips pipped Paul Scrafton to the MOTM award with both players winning 3 on the night. Karen Sullivan, looking for her first win of the season performed well, but just missed out loosing to Steve Richardson in 5. Scrafton & Phillips teamed up to win the doubles completing the win. Derby day saw the 2 Eaglescliffe teams lock horns with club ranking proving spot on as the C team ran out 8-2 winners over their D team stable mates.
