Report on play 3-11-2012

Suffolk and Cambs Junior Table Tennis League

The first session of this League took place on Saturday 3rd November 2012 with a lot of new teams and new players. The idea of this league is to introduce newcomers to competitive play and in the second year to improve on the techniques of match play. The league is divided into two divisions, the first division being in the most for players that have played in the league before and the second division is mostly for beginners.

In the first division, Beavers started well with Joseph Gollifer beating Thomas Pizey 11-4, 11-2 and 11-8. Lewis Howell did similarly beating Harry Chennells 11-1, 11-4, and 11-8. But Expedience came back to win the doubles 7-11,11-4,11-6,4-11 and the final leg by 11 points to 6. Thomas continued this trend by beating Lewis in 4 games, However Joseph then beat Harry in 4 legs to win the match for Beavers by 3 games to 2.

The experienced duo from Rougham Lions of Adam Reeve and Bradley Troughton had a 5-0 win against newcomers Stowmarket Smashers with Noah Samson and Archie Theobald but it was good to see the Smashers really enjoying themselves and competing for every point and Archie gaining the player of the match award.

The other Stowmarket team of Sisters + One had a convincing 5-0 win against Bury Beavers. Their team of Emma Baker and Jack Samson were too strong for Sam Taylor and Lewis Howell.

In the Second Division a very close fight between Rougham Panthers and Stowmarket Stingrays saw the latter win by 3 games to 2. Riya Kumar and Anna Ridsdill-Smith both beat Zoe Ballam but the star was James Davies-Stokes who won both his singles and teamed up with Zoe to win the doubles.

Stowmarket Jellybabies beat their clubmates Scorpions after some close games by 4-1. Ryan Lilley won both his games and Jacob Hall beat Megan Eaves but lost to Lewis Mullenger. The doubles was a really close affair going to 5 legs with Jellybabies winning the final leg by 11-9.

Ellesmere Evolution unfortunately had only one player Jack Nicholas but he beat Matthew Addison11-4,11-5 and 15-13 but only just lost to Jonny Wilkinson 12-10,5-11,11-13 and 5-11.

Overall a very good session and the young players enjoyed themselves and hopefully learnt something about match play. The next session is on 8th December.
