Tournament 2nd March 2013

In the Boys Singles No1 seed Joe Gollifer of Bury Club first beat Ed Croft and then Archie Theobald before meeting Patrick Bartram of Gazeley Gazelles Joe dominated this and won 11-7 and 11-5. Meanwhile his club mate Lewis Howell first beat Noah Samson and then next met the 2nd seed Tom Pizey. Lewis won this 11-8 6-11 11-5. In the semi final he met another Bury club mate Sam Taylor who won the first leg 15-13 but Lewis fought back to win the next 2 legs 11-8 11-6. In the final Joe won the first leg 11-7 but Lewis turned the tables in the second leg winning 14-12. However Joe came good again to win 3rd leg 11-7.

The girls played a round robin competition with Holly McGerty of Rougham club being too strong for the other girls. She won all her games to become the champion. Zoe Balaam of Stowmarket won her remaining games to come in the runner up position.

In the Handicap Singles the players were given a handicap score of between 0 and 16 according to their results in the league throughout the season and the winning score was 21. Holly McGerty (+15) featured again in this competition. First she beat Archie Theobald (Stow) (+7) then Jon Wilkinson (+12) from Gazeley before meeting Nathan Croft (+9) from Stow. She then in the semi-final she beat club mate Aidan Stibbs(+13)      In the other half of the draw Harry Williams(+15) also from Rougham first beat Stephen Perry(+12) from Gazeley and then Nathan Johnson from Ellesmere Club. In the quarter final he beat Luke Davies-Stokes(+13) from Stow and in the semis beat Jack Nicholas from Ellesmere.In the final Holly won by 21 points to 18.

The Doubles went according to the seeding, Tom Pizey/Harry Chennells from Ellesmere first beat Lewis Mullenger/Luke Davies-Stokes and then beat Harry Williams/Jon Wilkinson. Meanwhile  the made up pairing of Joseph Gollifer/Rhys Burton beat Ed Croft/Noah Samson from Stow and then Sam Taylor/Lewis Howell In the final  was a very close encounter with Pizey/Chennells winning the first leg 11-7 but Gollifer/Burton stormed back winning the next 2 legs 15-13 and 11-6.

The Girls Singles was played on a round robin system with Emma Baker from Stowmarket, Riya Kumar and Anna Ridsdill-Smith from Rougham and Natalie Wills and Hannah Stokes from Amberfield. After some intriguing games with everybody playng everybody, the winner was Emma and the runner up Hannah.

Rhys Burton won his second trophy of the day when he won the under 13 title. First he beat Jacob Hall from Stow then Luke Davies-Stokes again from Stow. Next he disposed of Holly McGerty. In the other half number one seed Archie Theobald from Stow was progressing to the final. He first beat Megan Stowe from Stow then Patrick Bartram and Nathan Croft. In the final Rhys beat Archie with Archie winning first leg 11-7 but Rhys coming back to take the next 2 legs 13-11 and 11-8. 

The Second Division singles saw a final between Gazeley team mates Jon Wilkinson and Stephen Perry. Jon first beat Jack Nicholas and then Aidan Stibbs before beating Harry Williams to reach the final. Stephen beat Holly McGerty then Ryan Lilley and Jacob Hall in the semis. Stephen then went on to win the final 11-9 11-4.

After the finals were played Tony West presented the trophies  to the winners and certificates to everyone who had played in the Suffolk & Cambs Junior league this year

Finally the man of the match trophy was presented, this is voted for by the players after every league match. For the first time we didn’t have a clear winner in fact there were 3 players with the same number of votes. Eventually it was decided to give it to James Davies-Stokes of the Stowmarket Club.
