The League's Handicap Tournaments were completed this week at Ferndale, with the staging of the Handicap Doubles, and the completion of the Robey Handicap Singles.
Many closely fought contests in the doubles resulted in semi-finals between the pairings of David Taylor/Nick Newton and Alan Frost/Dave Allen, and Hugo Stevenette/Tamas Kult and Jonathan Rose/John Lewis. Both semi-finals went to the deciding third game (under the old 21-up system), with Dave Allen and Alan Frost then running out comfortable winners over Jonathan Rose and John Lewis in the Final.
But there was drama in the Robey Final, in which Jonathan Rose, having a busy evening, faced young Cliff Barrett, giving him 6 points start in the process. Jonathan just made up the handicap in both games, but then couldn't quite get that elusive winning point, losing 22-20, 29-27!!
