week four

As we go into the first free week of the season, there was some good table tennis on display in all three divisions.

Tamworth Youth Club Retros convincingly beat Spital Daredevils 9-1. Carl Mountjoy and Steve Smith were unbeaten for Retros, while Claire Baker put in a good performance to retain a point for Daredevils, beating Tony Stewart and narrowly losing out to Steve Smith in the fifth.  There was a stalemate in a close game between Curdworth Wheelers Pingers and Hopwas Panthers.  The 5-5 result saw a treble from Rob Rowson for Pingers, as well as doubles from Alan Caffrey and Trevor Davies for Panthers.

In Division Two, Netherseal Cedar beat Rubgy Kings 6-4 in a closely contested match. Steve Farrington was undefeated for Cedar, and Charles Goodhall scored a brace, while Jonathan Pilling won two of his games for Kings in what was overall a friendly game.  In a Lichfield derby, Knaves comprehensively beat Barons 10-0.  The team of Mark Balant, Gerbo Huisman and Dave Russell were too much for the Barons side of Barbara Jones, Anand Kaila and John Henson. Hopwas Jokers beat Netherseal Oak 6-4.  Dave Tucker won a hat-trick of games, and Alastair Tallis won two games for Jokers.  Mike Harker fought back for Oak, emerging with two points for the Netherseal team.

In Division Three, TYC Boffs comfortably beat TYC China Whites 9-1.  Sam Till and Sam Bernstein could not be beaten for the young Boffs side, and Shaun Guest won two, beaten only by John Kinson for China Whites.  Lichfield Musketeers beat Tamworth YC Noobs 7-3.  Luke Sargent was undefeated for the Lichfield side, and Morgan Sykes scored a double. Meanwhile, Ryan Coady also managed two for Noobs, assisted by a single from Luke Gibson in this good game between promising youngsters.
