Week 3- 14th October 2013 Match Report

The spotlight was on Divisions two and three in week three
of The Tamworth Table Tennis League as the teams in Division put their feet up
and enjoyed a ‘free week’.

Division Two leaders Lichfield Knaves continued their fine
run of form with a hard fought 8-2 win over Jokers B. Morgan Sykes played
really well for the Knaves with a treble narrowly winning through in five
against Richard Howes. Dan Greathead and Neil Lehane added braces in support.
Richard Howes scored twice for the Jokers. Elsewhere Spital Daredevils beat
Curdworth Pongers 9-1 away however the contest was a lot closer than the
score-line suggests with four of the ten sets going to five. Claire and Alan
Baker plus Stuart Spalding bagged trebles for the Daredevils. Pete Bromley and
Richard Grove combined to win the doubles to prevent the whitewash. Netherseal
Oak were too strong on the night for Rugby Club Oddballs winning 10-0. Graham
Kettle was simply too hot to handle as were Andy Pearce and Brian Hagger. A
Yurig Slobodguk single prevented Lichfield Musketeers leaving empty handed in
their clash away to Hopwas Jokers A as they went down 9-1. Martin Tallis and
Dave Tucker were maximum men for the Jokers and Bill Lakin helped out with a
double.

Kingsbury Cruisers rose to top spot in Division Three
winning 6-4 against Kingsbury Crowns thanks largely to a John Howell treble and
two from Steve Gardner. Isobel Morrell added a single to ensure victory. John
Lowe played well for his double in reply for the Crowns and Andy Brown added a
point. Andy went on to win the doubles with Tom Haines narrowly in five. A
well taken Aimee Evans double was still not enough for TYC Futures as they went
down 7-3 away to Lichfield Barons. A wonderful maximum from John Henson, two from Karl Turner
and Pete Collins ensured the triumph. TYC lambs clocked up their first win of
the season defeating Lichfield Rockets 7-3. James Shaw was in great form for
his three. Rob Shaw contributed two and Rich Elson a single in support. The
Rockets points came by means of a Steve Thomas double and a point from Claire
Sykes. The clash between Spital Mondays and Netherseal Ash resulted in the only
draw this week in a close contest which saw John Brookes and Ian Sketchley
score twice for the Mondays and John combining with Paul Watkins to scrape
through in the doubles  16-14 in the
fifth. Graham Clarke and George Parry scored pairs in response for Ash with
John Pope scoring once.
