With top side TYC Retros match with TYC Wanderers game being
postponed, the focus this week was on the clash between Wilnecote Raiders and Curdworth
Pingers for second spot in the Tamworth Table Tennis Division One. Braces for
Ryan Birbeck and James Rudge, a Ryan/James doubles win and a single from Andy
Bache saw Raiders edge the contest 6-4. Dawn Sagoo scored twice for Pingers in
reply with Phil Burwell and Tony Stewart contributing singles. Elsewhere
Netherseal Cedar were in good form for their 8-2 victory at home to Lichfield
Jets. Maximums for Ian Perry and Aubrey Henry helped cement the triumph. Ian
also combined with Charles Goodall to take the doubles in three and Gary Carr
chipped in with a point. Mark Balant and Harry Emberson both scored once for
Jets. Lichfield Kings & Queens went down 9-1 at home to Netherseales. A Clive
Merriman single prevented the whitewash. Jason Hadley and Andy Rose both hit
trebles for Netherseales and Stephen Smith added a pair. Despite a fine
Johnathan Pilling treble Rugby Kings match with Kingsbury Tornadoes finished in
stalemate, 5-5. Johnathan also combined with Dean Snowden to take the doubles
in three and Dean added a further single. Kingsbury Tornadoes points came
courtesy of doubles from Alan Mcloughlin and Dave Morrell plus a point from
Leaders in Division Two Spital Daredevils secured a narrow
6-4 away win over Rugby Oddballs despite fielding two players. Alan Baker
remained undefeated on the night for Daredevils with Stuart Spalding scoring
twice. Dave Storr took the point from play for Oddballs. An Alastair Tallis
maximum helped Jokers A to a slender 6-4 home success over Curdworth Pongers.
Bill Lakin was also on target for the Jokers with two and Dave Tucker scored
once. Nick Matthews, Nick Bromley and Rick Grove all hit a point-a-piece for
Pongers with Rick and Nick Matthews combining to win the doubles in five.
Netherseal Oak had a convincing 8-2 win over Lichfield Knaves thanks to Brian
Hagger and Graham Kettle both notching up trebles and Mike Harker a double.
Neil Lehane took a point for Knaves and went on to win the doubles with Dan
Greathead 11-9 in the fifth. Jokers B cut Lichfield Musketeers down by taking
their tie 9-1. Richard Howes and Chris Latham were in sparkling form both
scoring three and combining to take the doubles. Colin Cartwright scored twice
in support. John Bell put up some resistance for the Musketeers scoring once.
In Division Three an Alex Farrell maximum ensured Kingsbury
Crowns enjoyed a share of the spoils in their contest with TYC Lambs which
finished 5-5. He was supported by John Lowe with two. James Shaw hit two for
the Lambs and took the doubles 11-6 with Rob Shaw. Rob also scored a single on
the night as did Rich Elson. A Peter Collins treble was still not enough as
Lichfield Barons slipped to a 6-4 defeat at the hands of Spital Mondays. Karl
Turner added a single in support. Ian Sketchley and John Brookes both hit two
for Mondays and together won the doubles 11-5 in the fifth. Paul Watkins got
himself on the scoreboard with a single.
