TYC Retros stamped their authority on Division One of the
Tamworth Table Tennis League with a comprehensive 9-1 mauling of their nearest
rivals Wilnecote Raiders. Jody Bevington and Michael Bree were simply a class
apart as they have been all season for Retros yet again winning all their
matches. Ronnie Woolaston scored a superb double in support. An Andy Bache
single for Raiders prevented the white wash. Third placed Curdworth Pingers
showed good form emerging 9-1 victors over Rugby Kings. Rob Rawson and Dawn
Sagoo both scored maximums for Pingers with Tony Stewart contributing a pair.
Johnathan Pilling took the single for Kings. TYC Wanderers beat Lichfield Jets 8-2 thanks
to a fine treble from Brian Beer and doubles from Steve Smith and Paul Bowler.
Mark Balant and Jack Gillespie both scored once for Jets. Netherseal Cedar won
through 7-3 in a close fought contest away to Lichfield Kings & Queens. Ian
Perry played really well for Cedar with a hat-trick and went on to take the
doubles with Aubrey Henry in four. Aubrey added two further singles wins and
Charles Goodall chipped in with a single. Kings & Queens points came
courtesy of two from Clive Merriman and one from Varvara Meredith. Two-player
Kingsbury Tornadoes went down 7-3 away to Netherseales. Jason Hadley and Andrew
Rose won all their matches for Netherseales. Karl Oliver and Dave Morrell both
scored once for Tornadoes and combined to win the doubles in four.
In Division Two leaders Spital Daredevils thumped Lichfield
Knaves 10-0 thanks to maximums from Stuart Spalding, Paul Bowler and Alan Baker.
Second placed Netherseal Oak comfortably eased through 9-1 away to Curdworth
Pongers. Graham Kettle was on the boil for Oak with three as was Brian Hagger.
Mike Harker scored a valuable brace. Pete Bromley ensured the Pongers emerged
with a point from their evening’s toils with a point. Kevin Wright led the
Rugby Oddballs to a 7-3 away triumph over Lichfield Musketeers with a well
taken treble. Dave Storr and Keith Pratt both contributed two points each in
support. Alan Thorne took a single for Musketeers and combined with John Bell
to take the doubles in three. Paul Edwards ground out a 13-11 singles win in
the fifth to secure a further point.
Top of the table in Division Three, Netherseal Ash beat TYC
Lambs 9-1 thanks to maximums from Graham Clarke and George Parry. Mick Sharratt
added two in support. James Shaw scored the point for Lambs. The Lichfield
Derby ended with a narrow 6-4 win to Barons over Rockets. John Henson was in
top form for Barons winning all his matches. Barbara Jones scored twice and
Peter Collins once to secure the tie. Zoran scored a pair in reply for Rockets and
combined with Steven Thomas to win the doubles in four. Steven added a further
single. John Brookes and Ian Sketchley were star performers for Spital Mondays
in their 8-2 victory over Kingsbury Crowns both scoring trebles. Paul Watkins added
a single. John Lowe and Andy Brown both took a point for Crowns in response.
