Match No 10 - Jan 12 - Jan 15

     Tamworth table tennis league resumed this week after a long Christmas break, during which a Doubles Handicap Cup round was played leaving just two teams to fight for the title in February. These being Curdworth Wheelers Pingers and Hopwas Jokers A. 

      In Division 1, there were two matches played, Tamworth Youth Club Wanderers had a 7 - 3 win over Lichfield Kings & Queens. The Wanderers team of Matt Satchwell, Andrew Walker and Brian Beer won two games each, while it was Diane St Ledger who saved the day for Lichfield , winning all three of her games. In the other match top of the league Wilnecote Raiders notched up another success. travelling to Netherseal and beating Netherseal Cedar 9 -1. Michael Bree and Andy Bache, for Wilnecote scored a maximum, 3 points each & took the doubles.  John Birbeck added the other two points. Gary Carr gained the single win for cedar.

      Division 2 saw Tamworth Rugby club kings beat Lichfield Knaves 7 - 3, Dean Snowden & Johnathan Pilling winning their three games a piece. Spital Daredevils had a close match, having a 6 - 4 win over Hopwas Jokers A. Stafford Brookes played well for Spital ensuring three points, Alan Baker helped the score with two more points and the doubles. Martin Tallis (2), Alistair Tallis (1)and Vincent Vidal(1) fought back for Hopwas A.  Hopwas B also lost their match to Curdworth Wheeler Pongers. David Bree, Rich Grove and Pete Bromley all won two out of three for The Pongers, it was however Dave Tucker for Hopwas B who won all the three points for his team, claiming his first treble of the season.

     There were three matches played in Division 3. The team at the top, Tamworth Rugby Club Oddballs, increased there advantage with a 9 - 1 triumph against Kingsbury Cruisers. Dave Storr and Kevin Wright were in top form to both get the maximum three points. Lichfield Musketeers followed the trend with a similar 9 - 1 win over the young Talentz team at Tamworth Youth Club. Musketeers, John Bell, Peter Collins and Paul Edwards were all unbeaten apart from a superb doubles win for Talentz, Rhyss Williams and Hayden Wooton. Finally Spital Mondays beat Netherseak Ash 7 - 3.  John Brookes, Ian Sketchley and Paul Watkins won two games each for Spital but it was Mick Sherratt who scored the full three points for Netherseal.
