The Bristol & District league fixtures were finally completed last week.
Thornbury A finished in a creditable 9th place in the top division with Anthony Kent topping the team's win averages again with 82%. Their final league position was affected by the lack of consistency around team selection and player availability so we aim to address this in time for next season. The main squad consisted of Anthony, Emily Standing, David Busari and Tony Briscoe but this was regularly backed up by players from lower divisions
Thornbury B had a very successful season, winning Division One by 8 points in the end from HCC C, who as it happens were the same team that defeated the B team in the Semi-Final of the Mordecai Cup on their way to winning the trophy for the 4th straight season! You cant win them all!! Top of the win averages was Tony Clarkson with 83.67%. The squad consisted of Tony, Julian Elsbury, Ian Maggs and Len Vowles. As the team will play in the top division next season we are looking to strengthen in an attempt to stay up.
Thornbury C found the going tough in their first season in the league, as there were a lot of very capable, experienced players in Division Two. That coupled with the team not being able to field their strongest side every week meant that they finished in 12th position and will now need to wait to see whether they are relegated to Division Three or retained as part of next season's Division Two. Top of the win averages was Mark Attwood with 63.64%, a good return for Mark's first season in the Bristol league. The squad consisted of Mark, Stephen Biles, Graham Eden, Simon Monks, Craig Skeldon and Viv Wilkie.
Finally, thanks go out to all three team captains for organising the teams throughout the long season.
