Tollesbury Table Tennis club was formed in 1980 and, along with Great Horkesley is one of the longest playing clubs in the Colchester & District Table Tennis League.
The club came about through the passion of the late John Matthews. John had been a long serving member of the Maldon Wanderers club, and lived in the village. He had always wanted to start a Table Tennis club in Tollesbury and, following an advert placed in the local Post Office, felt that this was the right time.
We initially started playing in the local Scout Hut but, as our membership grew, decided that we needed somewhere larger and more central. Hence, we moved to the Parish Rooms in 1982.
We had 29 years unbroken usage of the Parish Rooms until 2011 when unfortunately, circumstances meant we had to look for a new venue at short notice. Through a contact within the club, we were offered the use of the Salcott Parish Rooms, but it meant leaving Tollesbury for the first time in over 30 years. Although we were grateful to be able to have a fixed venue for the next 3 years, it was always our intention to move back 'home' (Tollesbury), once we had found a suitable venue.
In 2014 that dream became a reality and we were offered the Tollesbury Parish Rooms again. So as of the start of the 2014/15 season, we will be moving back to Tollesbury.
We currently have 2 teams playing in the Colchester & District League (Tollesbury A & Tollesbury B). Our playing nights from September will be every Friday. One week will be used for League matches and the following for practice nights.
Our aim is for Tollesbury TTC to grow into a big club. At the moment, we are looking to gain enough players to enter another 2 teams into the league (meaning 4 teams in total).
