Les Constable's report on the season

YMCA C were successful in winning the first division in the season before the war. Their policy was to split the teams up so that good players were in each team and as it turned out the C team were the strongest and did not lose one match. Edwards, Humphries and Barrer each played in a separate team and as it turned out Barrer's C team were the most successful. His team of Aldercotte and C.P.Snow (Sir Charles) proved too good for the opposition and fully deserved their success.

The Grange TTC won the second division after a struggle with St Matthews. These two teams were easily the best and when they met the result was a draw and a 5-3 win by the Grange - as close as that! Arthur Warren and Ray Free were the mainstay of the Grange team and the team of Frank Jeffery, Bert White, Tony Oliver and Arthur Sansom made a very [good] show for St Matthews with Jeffery losing only one game to Gibson of Histon.

This season saw the last one before the Second World War and it also saw the last of the famous trio of Humphries, Edwards and Barrer although Bill Humphries continued a year after the war as secretary and also ran a Business Houses League during the war.
