Les Constable's report on the season
This season saw Soham 1 increase their superiority over the rest of the teams
in Division 1 and they had a 58 point lead over second team St Ives who only
just pipped New Chesterton Institute by one point. In their first season in
Division1 Wesley came in fourth position which was a very good effort by their
young team of Martyn Livermore, Peter Melton and the Dane Lars Knudsen. The
Soham team of Keith Richardson, Mick Palmer and Andy Withers were much too
strong for the opposition and Mick Palmer was the only player to lose a set the
whole of the season. In fact Soham only lost 6 sets the whole of the season
and two of these were doubles matches - what a record! Fisons and University 2
were relegated to Division 2 and Swavesey and CIBA 1 were promoted to
Division 2.
St Georges 4 defeated Soham 1 in the final of the Knockout Handicap Trophy.
