Cambridge & District TTL 1982-1983

Les Constable's report on the season

Soham 1 again headed the First Division of the Cambs League with St Ives as runners-up. The Soham team of Keith Richardson, Mick Palmer and Andy Withers was much too strong for the opposition and only St Ives were successful against them and strangely enough had the better of the two matches played, winning 8-2 and losing 4-6. Keith Richardson had an average of 97% (only losing to Les Wooding of St Ives), Andy Withers 95% and Mick Palmer 91%. Wesley 3 headed Division two with Netherhall as runners-up with Neil Burgess having an average of 83% for Wesley. Tim Vine had an average of 87% also for Wesley 3 in the few matches he played.

SCDC won the Handicap Knockout Trophy by beating Soham 1 by six games to three with Pat Higgins being their star player.

The season saw the tragic death of Brian Bean who had had service with Hospitals, St Georges, NCI and Coton. He was also Auditor for the League. He was 52 years of age.
