week 9

Wakefield League Week 9 round up

Christmas and New Year break for 3 weeks now. I hope you all have a lovely time and come back sober and refreshed for the final 6 matches.

Just 1 postponed fixture to fit in Denhale v Barnsley if possible

Eastmoor C v Eastmoor A

Paul Haycock, Paul Coletta and Charlie of Eastmoor C had senior team A’s Chris, John and Graham as opposition. Paul H started the match off with a fantastic win against Chris but for the C team that was the end of the good news as John and Graham both recorded 3 singles wins apiece. Chris beat Paul C and battled back from 2-0 down against Charlie nicking the last set 11-6. He then combined with John to scrape through the doubles against the 2 Pauls. 9-1 to the A team

PWTT v Denhale

Lee, Kevin and Roger ‘wheeled out’ to contend with Denhales redoubtable three of Chow, Graham and Phil. Lee got the match rolling with a fine 3-0 win over Chow and Kev maintained the momentum by battling past Graham in his normal pugnacious style. Roger however fell to Phil in a 5 setter and Chow recovered from his earlier loss to get the better of Kevin in 4 sets and tie the match up. Lee eased past Phil and Roger took advantage of an unusually subdued Graham for a 3-0 win. Kev and Lee survived a first set loss in the doubles, regrouping and taking the next 3 against Chow and Graham to establish a 5-2 lead. Kev now made sure of the win when he beat Phil, Roger got beaten up by Chow and finally in the late chill air Lee lost the last 2 sets of the 5 set encounter to Graham. 6-4 to PWTT

Barnsley  v Eastmoor  B

Ray, John and Colin faced Carl, Paul and Tyrone. Ray got the match off to a good start overcoming Carl then Brian had to really battle to finally outlast Paul 12-10 in the 5th set. Colin and Tyrone shared the first 2 sets before Colin eased through the next 2 for a 3-1 win. Brian accounted for Carl and Ray lost his only set of the night but came through 3-1 against Tyrone. Colin secured another 3-1 win over Paul and joined up with Ray to beat Paul and Carl in the doubles. Tyrone at least got a game on the board when he eventually converted his initial 2-0 lead into a 3-2 victory over Brian. Matters closed with 3-0 wins for Colin and Ray over Carl and Paul. 9-1 to the hosts
