Week 6

Wakefield League Week 6 round up

Eastmoor C v Barnsley

John Murgatroyd, Charlie Brown and Paul Haycock faced the mighty pair!!!!  of Ray Hurst, and Colin Jones, obviously Barnsley were unable to get a 3rd player.

Starting 3-0 up John found himself facing Ray and so the fightback began as Ray took this one without dropping a set. On next were Charlie and Colin with this going the distance, Colin taking the decider 11-5. Paul battled manfully against Ray but came up short as did John against Colin. Charlie at least took Ray to deuce in one set and Paul finished the singles off going down in straight sets to Colin. The doubles also went to Barnsley for a 7-3 win.

PWTT v Eastmoor  B

Nicky Flynn, John Flynn and Lee York had to contend with the Eastmoor team of  David Lloyd Thompson, Carl Keegan and Paul Aldcroft

Nicky got the match underway with a 3-0 win over Dave and John did likewise beating Carl. Lee added to the tally beating Paul over 3 close sets. John notched up win number 4 when he outhit Dave in 4 sets and hat brought Nicky and Paul to the table. This was a nail biter of a watch as fortunes went one way and then the other, the outcome was that Nicky got it 12-10 in the 5th. Lee wrapped up the win beating Carl 3-0 to leave PWWTT hunting 2 more wins and Eastmoor wanting 3. John and Paul now produced another 5 set epic with Paul again having the misfortune to go down in the 5th. Lee secured maximum points after overcoming stern resistance from Dave, Nicky got home in 4 sets against Carl and at last luck turned the other way with Carl and Paul winning the doubles. 9-1 to PWTT

Denhale v Eastmoor A

Denhales three of Chow, Graham and reserve Paul Haycock took on Eastmoor top dogs Graham Wylie, Chris Inman and John Keegan.

Chow and GrahamW shared 4 highly competitive sets, victory going to Graham. GrahamN then scored a great win beating Chris 3-0 and this was followed by Paul losing narrowly to John by 3-1. The two Grahams squared up to each other now, so to speak, with Graham W recovering from 2-1 down to take it. Chow couldn’t quite get the better of John losing the 5th 11-5 but Paul managed a great win over Chris to give the home team hope. This was enhanced when Chow and Graham took the doubles against Chris and John.

GrahamN got the match score to 4-4 after he outlasted John in yet another full distance encounter. Paul couldn’t quite get the better of GrahamW and So Chow and Chris had to battle for the result. As you might have guessed this went to 5 sets also with Chris getting home 11-7.  6-4 to Eastmoor with 3 wins in vital 5th sets so fair to say it could have gone the other way.
