Week 1 round up

Wakefield League Week 1 round up

PWTT v Eastmoor B

New player Nicky Flynn led out Lee York and Kevin Plowman to face Carl Keegan, Tyrone Fleming and a new face to our league Paul Aldcroft.

Nicky and Carl shared 4 competitive sets with Nicky easing to a 3-1 win. Lee then mastered Tyrones spin and power game and Kev battled past Paul. Lee and Carl went the distance as Carl recovered from losing the first 2 sets but Lee grabbed the vital 5th. Nicky came out the winner against Paul in straight sets but Kev was on the wrong end of a reinvigorated Tyrone who won 3-0. The doubles were left to last so Lee took on Paul and registered his 3rd win of the night meaning Pauls 3rd loss but I’m sure he’ll play a lot worse and win.

Kev recovered after losing the first set to Carl and hammered his way to a fine win, leaving Nicky to finish the singles against Tyrone. A great 5 set encounter having 3 deuce sets and Tyrones 2nd win. The doubles went to Kev and Lee overcoming Carl and Paul in 3 sets.

Result 8-2

Barnsley v Eastmoor C

Perennial League winners Barnsley comprising Ray Hurst, Colin Jones and John Race faced Paul Haycock, Anthony Nakibinge and Charlie Brown.

Lets be honest no matter who Barnsley put out they are always a handful to say the least and so it proved in this match. All the singles were won in straight sets despite the very best efforts of Eastmoors players. The doubles was more competitive with Paul and Charlie taking a set and losing another to deuce. No disgrace there it’s a fate we might all face!!

Result 10-0

Eastmoor A v Denhale

Chris Inman, new player Daniel Brookes and league supremo John Keegan welcomed CP Chow, Phil Hemingway and captain Graham Nutter.

Chris got the match underway against Chow, they shared the first 2 sets but Chow then eased through the next two, Daniels baptism started with a loss to deuce to Phil in his first set but recovered to win the next 3 and equalise. John and Graham now put on the battle of the evening in a ding-dong 5 setter taken by John 11-9 in the last. Daniel and Chow had another close fought match this time Chow coming out the winner. 2-2. Chris couldn’t get to grips with Graham going down in straight sets and John squared the match up again beating Phil

3-0. Daniel and John took the doubles against Graham and Chow and when Daniel then registered a fine win over Graham 3-1 the draw at least was assured. John made sure of the extra point when he took his 3rd win of the match when he outpimped Chow 3-1 and Chris repeated this scoreline beating Phil.

Result 7-3
