week 10

Wakefield League Week 10 and 11 round up

 

Eastmoor  B   v   Denhale

 David, Carl and Tyrone were up against Phil, Graham and Chow. Dave and Phil were first into battle and Phil came out the winner recovering from 2-0 down. Carl lost to Graham and in another 5 setter Tyrone lost out to Chow. Carl got Eastmoor on the scoreboard beating Phil in 3 sets but Dave had no answer to Chow and he too lost in straight sets. Tyrone next played Graham and this time was on the right side in a tense 5th set winning it 13-11. Tyrone and Carl couldn’t stop their opponents from easing to a 3-1 win the doubles and Chows win against Carl got them a guaranteed 3 points. Better was to follow for Denhale with Tyrone losing in his 3rd 5 setter of the night this time to Phil, Dave found Graham on top form leaving Denhale 8-2 winners.

 

PWTT v Eastmoor C

Lee, Kevin and John came up against Paul, Anthony and Charlie in the palatial surroundings of Heckmondwike. It turned out to be a reasonably straightforward win for the home team, however closer inspection of the scorecard shows a competitive match with most things going in favour of PWTT. So maximums for Lee Kevin and John as they endeavour to hang on to the coat tails of Barnsley. 10-0 home win.

 

Eastmoor A v Barnsley 

Chris, Graham and Daniel were up against Ray, Brian and Colin in this one. The match was abandoned due to the floor becoming too slippery and consequently a danger to both sets of players.  Chris and Ray had started things off and Ray took this 3-0. Graham replied in kind with his own 3-0 win over Brian. Daniel then scored a fine win against Colin and Graham suffered a straight sets loss to Ray. Chris and Colin then shared a thrilling 5 set encounter just shaded by Colin 11-9 in the end. Daniel took a 2 sets lead against Brian but suffered the loss of the next 3. Chris and Daniel beat Ray and Brian 3-1 in the doubles leaving the match score 4-3 to Barnsley at which point they called a halt as the floor was now deemed to be just too slippery.

 

WEEK11

PWTT v Eastmoor B

Nicky, Lee and Kevin met up with Paul, Dave and Carl for the seasons 3rd encounter between the teams. Nicky and Paul faced off to start the evening and displaying stout defence and counter hitting Paul came away the 3-0 winner. Lee and Dave shared 4 competitive sets with Lee taking the win and Kev recovered from losing the 1st set to Carl taking the next 3. Lee now became Pauls second victim of the night as he again mixed studious defence with perfect placement and counter hitting. Nicky shook off  his earlier defeat and claimed a 3-1 win over Carl. Kev and Dave enjoyed a good battle with Kev getting home in 3 sets. Leaving the doubles to last Next on was Lee and Carl and Lee won this 3-0, next was Kev and Paul. This turned out to be Pauls toughest battle but he hauled himself over the line in the 5th for a very laudable trio of wins. Nicky battled past Dave and Kev and Lee took the doubles for a 7-3 win.

 

Eastmoor A v   Denhale

Chris, Graham and John had to contend with Phil, Chow and Graham at the church for this one. Chris got them off to his customary good start with a fine win against Phil and GrahamW battled past Chow over 4 competitive sets. John and GrahamN now enjoyed an epic 5 setter with Graham prevailing 16-14 in the last set. GrahamW initially struggled against Phil but after nicking the first set eased awy to take the next 2 and the match. Chris and GrahamN had another fine match with Chris shading it 3-1 and John pimpled his way to a 3-1 win over Chow. The doubles went the distance and the ace partnership of Chow and Graham took sets 4 and 5 to narrow the gap. The two Grahams were next on and victory went to Graham N for an outstanding win 3-1. John put the match to bed beating Phil and Chris, never one to have things easy, recovered from 2-1 down to Chow to record his 3rd win on the night. 7-3 to Eastmoor.

 

Barnsley  v Eastmoor C

John, Colin and Brian Isam were matched up with Paul Haycock, Paul Coletta and Charlie for this one. John and Paul H were first on court and Paul pulled off a great sets win, Colin then equalised with a straights win of his own over Paul C. Brian and Charlie had a tight match over 4 sets that Charlie took winning the last two sets in deuces. Colin got his 2nd win in 4 sets against Paul H and John overcame Charlie 3-0. Brian accounted for Paul C also 3-0 and Colin and John combined to take the doubles. John Colin and Brian then mopped the last 3 matches without dropping a set to record an 8-2 victory.
