Week 1

WEEK 1 Round up

PWTT v Denhale

Lee, Kevin and Lee opened the new season with a 9-1 win over rivals Denhale who fielded Chow, Graham and new player to the league David Nash. Lee got the evening started with a straight sets win over Chow but Graham got the better of Kevin with sustained attack to swiftly equalise. Thereafter though it was pretty much one way traffic. Lee completed a great night with 2 more straight sets wins, Kevin also managed to beat his next 2 opponents in straight sets and Nicky, rusty after not picking his bat up for some months shook off the cobwebs to register 3 wins of his own. Lee and Kev also won the doubles, as usual!! 9-1

Barnsley v Eastmoor C

Barnsley put out a really strong trio here of Stuart, Colin and Ray to play Paul, Charlie and Anthony. Perhaps predictably the hosts ran away with the match only dropping 2 sets all evening. A warning to us all that they don’t intend to give up their crown without a fight this year. So, 3 wins apiece for Stuart, Colin and Ray but Paul at least managed to take a set off Colin, no mean achievement!!

Eastmoor A v Eastmoor B

The usual suspects of Graham, John and Chris took on Paul, Carl and Tyrone at Grace Church. Graham and Paul opened proceedings with Paul getting the better of Graham in the 5th. Father v son next and Carl obviously took pity on his elderly dad after battering him in the first set to allow him to take it 3-1. Chris beat Tyrone in straight sets followed by John being downed by in form Paul 3-1. Graham restored the lead with a win over Tyrone and Carl beat Chris in straight sets. 3-3. The doubles went to regular partners John and Chris and John completed a dismal night for Tyrone winning 3-0. Chris and Paul shared 3 really close sets with Paul winning them all by the odd point. This left Graham and Carl to battle for the vital points. Again it was a close one but Carl came up with goods to win it and secure a fine draw. 5-5
