Warwickshire Over 60 Report

Warwickshire 1 lie top of County Championships Over 60's Division 1A after winning all six of their matches so far, with their most recent success being an 8-2 victory against fourth placed Worcestershire.

A key aspect has been the form of Diane St. Ledger, who has remained unbeaten in singles and also in both mixed doubles doubles in each match after combining well with Alan Cotton and Steve Taylor on each occasion. This was particularly crucial in Warwickshire's narrow 6-4 defeat of Cheshire 2,in a match which also saw reserve Paul Calloway score a vital win against opposing no.3 John Hope.

New Over 60's Cotton and Ron Vose have also made excellent contributions, as has Steve Taylor, who has won several singles from difficult situations, most notably against Lincolnshire when recovering from 2-8 down in the deciding set of his first singles, and then 1-7 down in the fifth set of his second singles.

The final two matches for Warwickshire 1 are at Halifax on 10th March against a tough Yorkshire 2 side who are third in the table currently, and title favourites Lancashire, who lie second at the moment having won all of their opening four matches. It could be a tense finale with only the division winners being promoted to the Premier Division for next season.

Warwickshire 2  have also competed well in the same division, but are in the bottom three after failing to win any of their first six matches, but they did score a creditable 5-5 draw against fellow strugglers Lincolnshire with Paul Calloway winning both of his singles ,and  John Ludford ,Malcolm Macfarlane and Dorothy Macfarlane all making useful contributions.
