Marjorie Chambers

It is with sadness that we announce the death of Mrs Marjorie Chambers on Monday 26th October, aged 88 years. Marjorie, known affectionately as Marj to many, who, together with her late husband Stan, were valuable members of the Wellingborough & District Table Tennis League from the mid 1970’s to late 1990’s.

During her table tennis playing career, she also held a variety of positions in the League, that of League Secretary for 7 years, Divisional Secretary for 20 years as well as Challenge Cup Secretary and Registration Secretary. Whilst also holding down these roles, she was Club Secretary for Wellingborough Town and went on to form the Chesterwell Table Tennis Club.

Marj and Stan gave up their free time on Saturday afternoons to spend with the young players at the Club in Great Park Street, Wellingborough, sharing their love of the sport, coaching and encouraging them to do better, which laid the foundations for their enjoyment of the sport. There are many of those youngsters still playing today, although they are all a little older, but who remember those times fondly and thank her for her patience and words of encouragement.

The funeral service for the late Mrs Marjorie Chambers, will take place at the chapel in Doddington Road Cemetery on Monday 9th November at 10.30am.
