Week 12

Westfield A 7 V Higham Harriers A 3

In this eagerly awaited top of the table clash, the hosts gave an excellent ream display to emerge victors. Westfield A have a knack pf never usually having 2 players below par and this proved the case. In the leagues’ top game of the season Ian Bird, in a titanic struggle, smashed Kevin Birds 100% record winning out 6-11, 7-11, 13-11, 11-7, 13-11. This should have paved the way for a visitor’s win, only for Travis Holly to atone for a poor display against Chesterwell A with a superb brace. His highlight being a 9-11, 11-6, 14-12, 10-12, 12-10 win over Ian Bird. Inconsistent as always, he edged out Norman Wooster 11-9 in the 5th but lost out 9-11, 11-13, 3-11 to Steve Kendall. Patryk Polanski continued his improved form enjoying comfortable wins over Kendall and Wooster but going down 6-11, 8-11, 15-13, 10-12 to Ian Bird. Bird and Polanski capped a fine team display with a 12-14, 11-5, 11-7, 11-8 doubles win over Ian Bird and Kendall.

Westfield B 0 v Thrapston 10

Earlier on in the season it looked as if 3 teams would be involved in the relegation battle, but with Pete Briggs in their ranks the visitor’s should survive with comfort. Against the hapless hosts, Thrapston went through the card and only in game 6, where Charlie Morrow, still winless, went down 11-7, 11-7, 7-11, 9-11, 4-11 to Briggs, did they ever threaten. Alan Tyler gained his 7th win, all against the bottom two sides.

WDHA Royals A 8 v Chesterwell A 2

The visitors aging band of veterans are finding tit tough against the top sides and likely to finish in their lowest position in the last decade. Mike Hawes, with his unorthodox style and Virat Patel, both gained trebles although Howes went to five against Mike Pond and Stan Galkowski, winning out11-7 and 11-6 respectively. The visitors gained 2 points with an 11-8, 5th end victory by Valdy Papiernik over Abin Islam and a comfortable win by Pond over the same player.

Chesterwell B 4 v Stanwick VHTTC 6

This close victory sees Stanwick move up to 3rd place in the league and once again Ian Baldock’s fine treble proved to be decisive in a very evenly matched contest. Geoff Neville added a further 2 points and the two of them sealed the victory with a straight sets win in the doubles. Luke Hughes played well for the hosts with a good double and only just missed out on his maximum when going down to Baldock, having taken the first 2 ends. Maxine Shears and Stuart Coles chipped in with a single win each for the home team.

WDHA Superkings 10 v Higham Band A 0

The Superkings move into a clear 2nd place in the league after this 10-0 demolition of the Band club. Maximums all round for Dev Patel, Tarun Mistry and Himanshu Ganatra whilst the Band club’s only glimmer of hope came in the doubles when Pete Martin & Perce Sharp took Patel & Mistry to a 5th set before finally going down 11-9.

Westfield C 1 v Wanderers B 9

The Wanderers march on at the top of the league and this 9-1 thrashing of Westfield C sees them maintain their 100% record. Stewart Williams and Bob Hickson both carded good trebles whilst Carl Singh once again fired a great double after stepping up from his club’s C team. Mark Ramsden scored Westfield’s only point of the evening with a 4 set victory over Singh before the Wanderers gained their 9th point when Williams & Singh beat Mark Holly & Stuart Rae in the doubles.

Wanderers C 4 v Chesterwell C 6

Chesterwell C move up 2 places in the league after this 6-4 victory over their close rivals Wanderers C with Daniel Mann firing another great maximum to go with Clare Coles’ two wins (her first points of the season) and a single win from Duncan Wright. Tony Wallis was the home team’s best player with a good double to go with a single win from Maurice Jones. The Wanderers made the scoreline more respectable with Wallis & James Findlay defeating Coles & Mann in a 5 set doubles encounter

WDHA Rising Stars 0 v Wanderers E 10

This result was an expected win for the visitors, Wanderers E, with David May, Steve Hoole and Derek Shears going through the card without losing an end. Swati Jethwa and Ansh Shah both had a number of 9-11 end defeats, giving them encouragement for the future. However, a 4th end was required to in the doubles as Shah and Ganatra took an end from May and Hoole.

 WDHA Challengers 7 v Westfield D 3

The Challengers needed a larger points win to keep up with the current leaders Wanderers D and are 9 points behind. Kishan Mistry, Rahul Jethwa and Manav Pandya all scored 2 wins apiece as they all lost out to Westfield’s Amrat Mistry, their only saving grace. Pandya was the only player to take Mistry to five with two 12-10, and 10-12, 3rd and 4th ends but bowed out 5-11 in the 5th. Pandya and Mistry took the doubles 11-13, 11-6, 11-8, 12-10.

Westfield E 0 v Wanderers D 10

Wanderers D increase their lead with this 10-0 victory, but Westfield E were unlucky not to score. Ashley Pedlar had 2 sets going to five ends, Mike Howorth edging past him 11-9 in one of them. Stuart Rae’s effort against Howorth could have gone either way, but ended 11-3, 5-11, 12-10, 8-11, 12-14 and 10-12, 10-12, 11-8, 9-11 against Roger Ellingham. The doubles started with Rae and Eleanor Smyth losing 10-12 but bowed out 1-11 in the 3rd end.

Chesterwell D 0 v Higham Band B 10

With Chesterwell D struggling to field 3 players each week it was a relatively easy quest to overcome them. Gavin Birmingham gave Raylee Burton a good set 12,14, 12-10, 11-5, to succumb 3-11 in the 4th end, Katie Coles also taking an end from Burton 4-11, 8-11, 11-9, 5-11. Birmingham came close to Deirdre Kiziak 8-11, 9-11, 9-11 and Devlin Whitmore adding easy victories. Band taking the doubles 6-11, 7-11, 3-11.
