Week 3

 DIVISION ONE

Thrapston 6 v Westfield B 4

In a match between sides likely to be in the lower regions, Thrapston edged home due to the visitors surprisingly conceding the doubles. Michael Ainsworth in his first Wellingborough League appearance for some time scored an excellent treble, his highlight being a five set 9-11, 11-3, 11-9, 14-16, 11-4 win over Chris Warliker. The visitors other leg was gained by Mark Thomas, who recorded his first top division win in a remarkable 11-2, 11-3, 11-2 win over Steve West. Leigh Clements, the only player not to register, nearly saved the match, going down 8-11, 5-11, 14-12, 11-8, 12-14 to West

St John B 2 v Chesterwell A 8

The match opened in an amazing manner with Mike Terry inflicting probably Valdy Papiernik’s heaviest defeat ever, winning out 11-1, 11-3, 11-1. He followed up comfortably seeing off Mike Pond but was edged out in 5, 11-6, 8-11, 11-5, 2-11, 7-11 by a rejuvenated Stan Galkowski, who opened his seasons account after two blank with a treble. Steve Mansfield and Paul Lipczak found the going much tougher than their team mate and failed to gain a leg.

Westfield A 9 v Thrapston 1

Virtually all games were very comfortable wins for the current champions, the exception being game 7 where Chris Warliker went down to Travis Holly, 6-11, 11-9, 9-11, 15-17 but had managed to save a clean sweep with his win, again in three ends 8-11, 6-11, 7-11 over Patryk Polanski.

 DIVISION TWO

Wanderers C 0 v Wanderers B 10

The Wanderers B team followed up last week’s opening win with a 10-0 mauling of their C team club mates with only 2 games requiring a 4th end. There were maximums all round for the B team’s Paul Goodman, Stewart Williams and Bob Hickson and finally Williams & Hickson secured the doubles to conclude a wretched night for the home team who had topped the league table after the first 2 weeks.

Old Grammarians A 8 v Higham Band A 2

The O.G. s continued their good start to the season with a comfortable victory over the Band Club. Mick Ball and Martyn Reeves both fired great trebles for the home team, only dropping one end between them whilst Nigel Magee and Keith Stockley both defeated the O.G.s Phil Laurence to earn Higham’s only 2 points of the evening. Laurence & Reeves finally saw off Magee & Martin in the doubles, gaining the win with a 11-3 5th set decider.

 WDHA Superkings 7 v Chesterwell C 3

A good all round team performance from the Superkings with doubles for all of their 3 players, Dev Patel, Tarun Mistry and Himanshu Ganatra saw them edge out Chesterwell, whose Daniel Mann proved to be unbeatable with a great maximum, his second in 3 outings. Patel & Mistry completed the match with a 4 set doubles victory over Mann & Duncan Wright to keep the Superkings in 3rd place in the league.

 Westfield C 3 v Stanwick VHTTC 7

Stanwick made it 3 wins out of 3 to go top of the league after a good away victory against Westfield. Ian Baldock led the way with a fine treble and was well supported with a brace from Geoff Neville and a single win from Al Hayes, his first of the season. Tim Mason scored a good double for the home team with Piotr Polanski adding a single win to keep the scoreline respectable. Baldock & Neville completed a good night’s work for the visitors, winning the doubles against Mason & Polanski in straight sets.

 DIVISION THREE

 Higham Harriers C 3 v Wanderers E 7

Although the score line was weighed heavily in Wanderers E’s favour, there were a lot of close ends. David May with a comfortable hat trick and Derek Shears and Steve Hoole weighed in with two wins each. Shears losing out to Katie Hicks 11-7 in 5th and Steve Hoole to her brother Oli, 4-11, 11-9, 11-1, 11-6. Hoole was lucky not to lose a second to Katie as he finally won out 8-11 in the 5th. Only Matt Hicks was to come away without a win, as Katie and Oli added the doubles for the 3rd point over May and Shears in four ends.

Westfield E 5 v Higham Band B 5

Devlin Whitmore saved the day for Higham Band B, recording his 2nd hat trick with only Stuart Rae giving him trouble, taking him all the way before Whitmore scored the 5th end 8-11. Rae and Ashley Pedlar with two wins each over Raylee Burton and John Yeates in three ends. Eleanor Smyth failed to register and it was left to Pedlar and Rae to secure the doubles win 11-8, 11-4, 17-15 over Yeates and Whitmore for the draw.

Chesterwell D 0 v Old Grammarians B 10

Chesterwell could only muster two players against the strong ex Division 2 side and Old Grammarians B cleaned up with no resistance offered, Martin Rice, David Bayes and Colin Lord taking all available points.

WDHA Rising Stars 0 v Westfield D 10

In the second 10-0 scoreline this week, Westfield D top the Division 3 table with this fine win over the WDHA Rising Stars, although again there a few close ends, which made for an enjoyable night. Swati Jethwa and Bipasha Ganatra gave a good effort in the doubles against Stuart Holroyd and Asish Nandi to no avail as they went down 11-13, 7-11, 11-13. Roy Smyth, Westfield D’s other maximum man.

WDHA Challengers C 5 v Wanderers D 5

Wanderers D who were relegated last season had a very close encounter with Challengers C, four ends needed a decider and no player was unbeaten. Graham Babbage and Mike Howorth both score twice for Wanderers and Kishan Mistry did likewise for the home side. Mistry and Rahul Jethwa teamed up in the doubles to level the score in three ends over Babbage and Roger Ellingham.
