Week 12 Report 14th January 2019
Wanderers B 4 v St John A 6
In yet another close and excellent game from the top division, St John A edged home. A feature which has made the division very competitive is that fringe players coming in have performed excellently in most cases. In the latest example a superb treble was obtained by Scott Dixon in only his 2nd outing. Highlight was a 11-9, 7-11, 2-11, 11-9, 11-7 victory over one of the league's top players, namely Grant Timms, with the hosts other point gained by Mike Terry who comfortably saw off Pete Boustred. For the visitors after a rocky start to the season, Richard Wills with his latest brace has now gained 7 wins in his last 3 outings.
Westfield B 6 v Wanderers C 4
This match was a very evenly matched affair where all 6 players contributed at least one point but no player remained unbeaten. Westfield raced to a 3-0 lead but the Wanderers hit straight back to level at 3-3 and Westfield finally took the match with a 5 set doubles victory. Steve Fuller and David Rogers carded good doubles for the hosts with Mark Holly adding a further single win whilst James Findlay replied for the visitors with a fighting double to add to single wins from Tony Wallis and Maurice Jones.
Stanwick VHTTC 10 v Wanderers D 0
Stanwick continued their fine run of recent results with a solid 10-0 whitewash of bottom club Wanderers D whose 10th consecutive heavy defeat suggests they will have a real struggle to maintain their division 2 status. Ian Baldock, Joe Peckham and Geoff Neville all fired 3 set maximums for the hosts before Baldock & Peckham completed the 10-0 scoreline with a 4 set doubles victory over Roger Ellingham & Graham Babbage.
Old Grammarians C 6 v Westfield C 4
Alan Hill scores his 5th hat trick for Grammarians as they slip down into 2nd place. David Hatherall scored twice and just lost out to Stuart Holroyd in 4 ends. Both Asish Nandi and Holroyd took points from Adrian Howes and then went on to take the doubles to bring the scoreline more favourable for Westfield
WDHA Rising Stars D 3 v Wanderers E 7
Bottom of the table Rising Stars improved on their last encounter by 3 points, all due to one player, Jiten Gopal, who lost all three sets last time and replied this time with a hat trick and only lost one end to Dave May which was an outstanding achievement. Wanderers took all other available points without losing any ends.
WDHA Challengers B 9 v Westfield D 1
Challengers B move up into top place this week, with the highest win. The first set of the match went to Westfield D, Roy Smyth beating Kavish Dodhia in three ends. Unfortunately for them, that was their only point. Smyth took Daniel Bain to 5 ends but all other sets played out in 3 ends. The closest match was the doubles where Bain and Hubert Malenda took on Roy and Eleanor Smyth. 11-5, 12-10,12-10. Hat tricks for Bain and Malenda, make Challengers B the team to beat and they have a game in hand!!
Chesterwell D 7 v Higham Band B 3
Chesterwell improved their scoreline over their last encounter, gaining 2 extra points. Both Duncan Wright and Caspian Wagner scored hat tricks, Wright his 8th and Wagner his 5th. Deirdre Kiziak put up a good fight against Wagner, but conceded 11-4 in the 5th end. All Band players took a point each from Dominic Wagner, who was playing for the first time. The final doubles point took some doing, going all the way, but Chesterwell came out victorious and puts them in good stead for that 2nd promotion place.
