Higham Harriers A 8 v Thrapston 2
After an excellent start to the season, the visitors have hit a brick wall and the inclusion of Alan Tyler for his first outing did little to help the cause. A perpetual struggler at this level he failed to register or even gain a leg. Peter Briggs fought hard, taking Ian Bird to 5, losing out 6-11 in the 5th and also gained a leg off Steve Kendall. Graham Bird for the hosts in his 2nd outing went down to both Chris Warliker and Briggs but fought well but failed to put any more points on the board.
Westfield A 1 v Wanderers B 9
With both Kevin Bird and Travis Holly absent a much weakened side were taken to the cleaners by the promoted Wanderers B side. Stephen Woolston was edged out 9-11 by Paul Goodman, well beaten by Mike Terry and gained the hosts only point in an 11-8, 11-6, 11-8 win over Bob Hickson. Mark Thomas and Paul Benko both gained the odd leg but were never in the hunt and a gleeful visitors outfit cruised home.
WDHA Royals 6 v Wanderers A 4
In a match much more representative of the season to date the WDHA Royals edged home by 6-4. Virat Patel, the player of the season so far, gained another superb treble dropping only 1 leg in the process. This was, however, negated by Nitin Patel who took Andy Law to 5 but failed to register. The visitors other point was gained by tony Wharton who won out 7-11, 10-12, 11-8, 11-7, 11-8 over Mike Hawes..
Chesterwell C 7 v Higham Band A 3
Chesterwells 4th win of the season sees them maintain their 3rd place in the league thanks to a good all round effort with Maxine Shears’ excellent treble complementing 2 wins apiece from Clare Coles and Stuart Coles. Perce Sharp and Steven Mansfield both scored single wins for the visitors and the two of them later combined to gain a 5 set doubles victory over Maxine & Clare.
Wanderers C 7 v Wanderers D 3
This contest between the division’s 2 bottom clubs resulted in the Wanderers C team coming out on top against their D team club mates, thus gaining their first win of the season. Team captain Tony Wallis led the way with his first maximum of the season and was well backed up with a brace from Carl Singh and a single win from James Findlay. Roger Ellingham hit back for his D team with a fine double and Mike Howorth chipped in with a further single win. The match concluded with Wallis & Findlay seeing off Ellingham & Graham Babbage in 3 sets of doubles.
Old Grammarians A 6 v Higham Harriers B 4
The O.G.s could only manage to field 2 players for the second week running but still managed to hang on and claim a good 6-4 victory with a doubles win securing their 6th and decisive point. A fine maximum from Mick Ball to add to Martyn Reeves’ good double secured the O.G.s’ 5 singles points whilst the Harriers’ Mick Malins good win against Reeves, to go with their 3 default points comprised his team’s 4 points.
Westfield B 1 v Stanwick VHTTC 9
Stanwick’s 5th win on the trot sees them close the gap on leaders Chesterwell B to only 3 points and with a game in hand they are now handily placed. Ian Baldock continued his fine run with his 5th successive maximum and was well supported with another great treble from Graham Taylor to add to a brace from Geoff Neville. David Rogers saved Westfield from the whitewash with a good straight sets victory against Neville before Baldock & Taylor secured Stanwick’s 9th point with a 3 set doubles victory over Rogers & Mark Holly.
Old Grammarians C 9 v Westfield D 1
A rearranged match, with the inclusion of newly registered Paul Lipczak for Old Gramms C, saw the team soar to 3rd place a good hat trick for him along with a perfect hat trick for Alan Hill. Roger Fleming scored twice after an epic 5 ender with Roy Smyth lost his point 13-11, 3-11, 11-9, 12-14, and 10-12. Westfield D failed to score another point, losing the doubles in 3 ends
Westfield D 2 v Westfield C 8
In this all club tie, as is usually the case the higher team won out. Westfield C still without Amrat Mistry in their ranks disposed of their club mates with relative ease. Only Roy Smyth managed a singles victory with his a 5th end victory over Asish Nandi, 9-11, 12-10, 11-4, 9-11, 11-9, their second point coming in the doubles where Eleanor Smyth and Stuart Rae won out, again in the 5th over Nandi and Jay Rogers. Rogers and Stuart Holroyd each secure a hat trick.
WDHA Rising Stars D 2 v Chesterwell D 8
Two new players making their debut in the Wellingborough League each secured one win each over Chesterwell D’s Katie Coles. Coles however managed a single victory over Shivam Gopal to add to Duncan Wright and Caspian Wagner’s who secured trebles without losing an end and added the doubles for the 8th point of the evening.
WDHA Raj Riders C 1 v Old Grammarians B 9
Jiten Patel for Raj Riders stopped the whitewash against the experienced Old Grammarians B side of Martin Rice, Colin Lord and David Bayes, who took all the remaining points without too much trouble. Rice with an easy treble, but Bayes had to fight hard against both Swati Jethwa and Gopal.
WDHA Challengers B 7 v Old Grammarians C 3
This was a surprise result for Old Grammarians C who fought hard for their 3 points, Daniel Bain registering a fine hat trick defeating Adrian Howes in 3 ends and with two 5th end victories 11-3 and 11-9 over Alan Hill and Roger Fleming respectively. Aum Lakhani registered a brace with Kavish Dodhia having to settle for a single, Bain and Lakhani taking the doubles in three ends over Fleming and Howes.
Wanderers E 5 v Higham Band B 5
Following the unexpected win in the opening game of the evening for Higham Bands Deirdre Kiziak 9-11 in the 5th over David May, the home side were always trying to catch up. Derek Shears was lucky to secure a brace as he was taken to 5 by both John Yeates in Game 2 and Kiziak in Game 4, winning 11-9 and 11-8 respectively.
